Amazing view at sunset

Highly recommend going up before sunset to get incredible views. Cafe at the top, a bit overpriced but nice to get a drink.

we visited the Pao de Acucar as part of a day tour of the city and this was a great way to go with an English speaking guide. We visited in the off season and during the week so there were no crowds as such and this made the trip to the top of Sugarloaf and back very comfortable on... More

Easily located from Copacabana or Botafogo beach (lovely walk) after the first cable cart to the midway point you start to realise why this is attraction is a must. The second cable cart takes you to the top and the views are amazing and 360degrees. You can see planes land the sunset over copa or the beach and Bay Area... More

Taking the Cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain is a definitive must do Rio Janeiro! No 3 on the list after Christo Redentor and Copacabana Beach.

Pão de Açúcar or Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the best vantage points to see all of Rio de Janeiro - definitely bring a camera! It is very crowded although I have been there twice and found not as crowded as the Christ statue. The ascent is quick via two cable car rides to top but the hassle and crowds... More

Beautiful views - a must do when in Rio. Go early before the crowds. But a lot of beggars and street sellers who are very annoying.

A complementary view to Christ the Redeemer. You can see the city from the other direction. Very nice view to all the beaches. Can also see the airplanes coming in to land on the smaller airport close to the city.

Being afraid of heights I was hesitant getting into the cable cars but it was well worth it - such an amazing view!

Spectacular views of Rio from this high point. I really enjoyed the lined trolly to and from sugarloaf mountain. And at the top you can see Christ the redeemer. I really enjoyed this visit. Make sure to bring plenty of treats to give the local street kids.

Staying in Urca

Neighbourhood Profile
Urca
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”
