This is a great place to come for an amazing view where you can see sugar loaf , Christ redeemer and more.

We took an Uber up there to see the sunset and naturally assumed we could get an Uber back to Copacabana. This was not the case as each time we thought an Uber accepted our request they then cancelled it. We were apprehensive as it was now dark and we appeared to be stranded. It so happened to be the case that two other groups were in a similar predicament. One group managed to hitch a ride and told us it’s best for us to start walking down to Trem de Corcovado. At this point only 1 car was left in the car park. We took her advice and started walking down. It was 4 girls and 1 guy so you could imagine how nervous we all were especially how we would have to pass by a favela at night. Luckily after 15min of walking a minibus passed by which one of the girls flagged down. The driver offered us a left down to Trem de Corcovado for $30R. This situation possibly could have gone a whole lot differently so please ensure that you have your ride back from Mirante Dona Marta as in our experience (both groups) we could not get an Uber to collect us

Guided tours will take you here, but I did it by public transport. Buses 006 and 007 run from the city, bus 507 runs from outside Largo do Machado Metro station - all go to Silvestre and are very frequent. Get off at the road junction before the bus terminus - you'll see the guardhouse and the entrance to the national park. Easy 30 minute walk up the road to the viewpoint, where your efforts will be weel rewarded with a remarkable panorama stretching from Ipanema beach around to Maracana stadium. In 2019 there were security guards at the car park.

Only the view from the christ redeemer could beat the views you get from mirante dona marta.
You can reach by taxi, no entrance fee, no queue. You can see almost everything from here : sugar loaf, christ, botafogo, rocinha, maracana...
To me, this place is wonderful and is a the only alternative to the christ if you want to avoid the queue and the price. Strongly recommend !

We got an Uber from Santa Teresa to the view point and it was really reasonable. The views are great and not widely visited by the huge crowds. There is no charge either, but go in the day as it isn’t so safe at night being near a Favela.

To get down you need to walk down the road to get the bus down to central. The 006 or 007 buses take you down to the central area of Rio, where you can get the metro, bus or Uber. Uber’s are not always keen to come back up to the view point to pick you up.

We felt totally safe walking down the road to the bus stop and through the forest.

This belvedere is near to the borough of Cosme Velho. What make this place interesting is that there is a 360 degree view of the city of Rio de Janeiro: to the Sugar Loaf, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Corcovado of the Crist and the baia of Guanabara. It is free for visitation and there is a airstrip for helicopter. Take your panoramic pictures as postcard of your visit to Rio de Janeiro. The best way to understand this unique city, with mountains, lakes, beaches and slums.

Midrante Dona Marta viewpoint
When trying to get the train up the Corcovado Mountain to the Cristo Redentor statue, my girlfriend and I were approached by a car company "Corcovado Car Service" offering to take us up the hill with a visit to the Dona Marta viewpoint included as well. As the line for the train was long and clouds were coming in over the tops of the mountains, we, along with another small group of Spanish tourists, took up the offer.

We hadn't initially planned on visiting the viewpoint here, but it turned out to be well worth it. The slightly higher Corcovado Mountain with the Christ statue was too concealed by clouds for any view at the top, but this mountain was still low enough for a spectacular view of the city from its summit. The clouds were coming in around us too, but not to such a great extent; so it was possible to get some great photos with and without cloud coverage.

If the weather is too bad for the full Corcovado Jesus experience, then the viewpoint here is definitely a great alternative. Alternatively, if the weather is good and you do have the option to combine them for the same price, it's definitely something worth doing.

For photographers: This is your postcard view of Rio. It has the classic view of the bays surrounding Sugarloaf. I was here very early in the morning, just before sunrise. Carpark is very dark as well as the 5 minute walk out to the viewpoint. Be a little cautious at this time of the day. You are in a park in the dark in a big city after all! I came with a local guide who was a little nervous himself. When I got to the viewpoint I was happy to see a couple of other photographers already there. Views also include a different angle of Christ the Redeemer Statue and off to the other side some nice views of the sun coming up on some hillside favelas.

Located in the Tijuca Forest, right above the santa Marta favela (the first pacified favela in Rio and the one where Michael Jackson did his video clip for "they don't really care about us") the Mirante ("mirante" means viewpoint) has a very good view on Sugar Loaf mountain and also of the Christ statue... best reachable by car (or bicycle if you're really fit).
