Most websites recommend a guide but as most things in Brazil organising such takes time. So we decided to walk the path up and down without a guide. For those who are happy with the historic explanations one can find online and who are just interested in a nice hike this is probably the best solution. Even for slow walkers... More

We have been staying at Backpackers House in Paraty and the owner, Pablo, took us on a tour of the Gold Trail as a group... We all had a great day out! Firstly he took us to some smaller rocks to slide into the water and a place where you can jump off some high rocks into a deep pool... More

We went up a bit to get to an Ingenio to see how cashasa was made. Very interesting! Had an enormous lunch there and then crossed over the road to an excellent little walk to some falls called "tobogan" loved it!

we spent one morning doing the gold trail / caminho do ouro with Harry from paraty explorer. Even though he is from Buenos Aires his grandfather was from scotland which meant we had plenty to talk about!
