Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This is a place you must visit if you are in the island.
The access is by hiking 2,30hrs on a wide road of soil and rocks, from Vila do Abraão.
If you are lucky and the ocean is calm you may find a boat to take you back to Abraão, otherwise you will have to hike back.
But its worth every step. The left side of the beach has a cristal clear water river that ends in the white sands of the shore.
You also have the prison ruins and a museum that is good to visit
Go early and enjoy!

I walked to this beach from Abraão. It’s worth doing as it’s a good easy walk at 8 kms through the jungle but on a road, no cars though. At the beach you can cool off and also visit the ex prison museum to learn about the history of the place. A nice chilled out beach

The walk to Dois Rios - on a road through the rain forest - is an adventure. It's a great way to see some nature on Ilha Grande. The walk from the Village of Abraao takes about 2 hours - one hour uphill and one hour downhill (4+ hours round-trip). It's not particularly steep and the road is pretty level, but on a hot day could be pretty strenuous. Bring water and take your time. There are multiple waterfalls to stop and rest along the way. We were told that you can also take a water taxi via Lopes Mendes, but we did not see any water taxis coming or going while we were there.

The road from Abraao takes you to the center of the village of Dois Rios, where you can visit the small environment museum and another focused on the former prison. The rest of the village is pretty empty. Follow the main road through the village - it ends at the old prison. Turn left and follow the road to the beach.

The beach is about a mile long and mostly empty. The water is pretty calm. About half-way down the beach are a few small kiosks/snack bars, selling sandwiches and drinks. It is a beautiful, calm, and mostly-empty beach.

It can be difficult to get there, but Dois Rios beach is worth it.

Beautiful beach. Very busy. No accommodation and taxi boats here are rude and extortionate- they will stall you for as long as they can and lie about boat times leaving etc. So frustrating we walked back 8km to Abraão.
Local restaurant largely ignored us because we were european and dont speak portugese- served around 30 people their meals who arrived and ordered well after us.

We loved hiking to Dois Rios. It's definitely an undertaking- so be prepared. As others have said, it's about 2.5 hours each way, plus you will likely want to spend a couple hours there exploring the beach and the jail museum (free). It's a pretty strenuous hike, and though others have been able to make the trip back by boat, but they are not always available so you should be prepared to walk both ways. We tried to arrange for a boat to pick us up but the seas were too rough on that side of the island that day. The small town of Vila de Dois Rios has a small restaurant/store where you can get water/snacks. The hike was very worth it. The beach where the river meets the ocean was incredibly beautiful, and we basically had the beach to ourselves.

It's two hours' hike from the village. It's attractive and pleasant but I guess I was expecting something a little more special.

Visiting the ilha grande prison, was very interesting !!! There are two public simple museums in good condition with excellent staff. We arrived by powerboat and Elianai (local citizen with a taxi boat) came right away to take us to shore. Since there are breakers you do need local knowledge if reaching the beach from your vessel. There are 3 local options for food that we didn't experiment, but seem to be really good. The beach is gorgeous, and very clean and well maintained. We all had a blast made unforgettable by the very welcoming reception.

Historical place and the perfect to relax. But you have to be prepared to walk about 18 km (round trip).

To reach this beach you habe to hike to hours from the main town of the island. But the beach is really rewarding: Situated between two rivers (in which you can also swim), you habe several kilometers of finest sand beaches with almost no people around you. The tropical surrounding is amazong. Furthermore you can visit the remainings of the dois rios prison (the goverment destroyed it), which is one of the darkest places of modern history in brasil. There is a small museum that you can visit for free. Some of the former prisoners still live in the houses of the prison complex.

The most beautiful beach in Ilha Grande, in my opinion. Calm and relaxing.
About 2h walking, but it is worth visiting. Medium-level trail.
You can go there by foot or by taxi boat.
There are no restaurants, but you can find locals selling meals.
