If you are interested in history it is worth leaving a couple of hours for the fort, the church and the museum (often closed) all around the same square across the Ver o peso market.

This Fort is near the peer and the building/ museum / cannons are all really interesting. Our visit was accompanies by a guy singing opera on top of his voice :D.

A beatiful fort form the XIX century, to protcet the port of Belem. You find old english cannons and an exibhit about the hitoriy of Belem settlement and the native tribes.
