Nice building

For architecture lovers, this is supposed to be the oldest working theater in Latinamerica. Very well conserved and recently renovated.

Another place we almost missed which would have been a shame. Small intimate old venue with simple but elegant interior. No performances were scheduled while we were there but we had a impromptu afternoon recital which was charming.

We got lucky and watched a performance for free our one night in Ouro Preto. The Opera House is really special as its the oldest theater still in use in South America. There isn't really much to place, but its always fun to feel like you are able to witness a little piece of history being used the way it... More

In 1984 I had the honor to perform in this theater, as part of a South American concert tour organised by the US Government. I remember being completely humbled by the history and beauty of the building, but even more so, blown away by the amazing acoustics in this mainly wood structure. It was a full house, but I remember... More

This is such a beautiful theater. Small and unassuming for the outside, but delightful inside with a real sense of history. Well worth a visit.

This is definitely worth seeing. The little opera house is so cute, and for only 1-2 reais (1 for students and seniors) you can tour the whole place. There was a guide, Paulo, who is knowledgeable about many aspects of the the theatre. There is also a dressing room in the basement that should not be missed, as well as... More

for $R2 this was a fun diversion. You can walk onto the stage of the oldest theater in South America. They have events at night.

This small building on a side street off the main square should not be missed. For 2Rs you can wander around and admire the style and balconies and even wander on to the stage. It is older than the opera house at Manaus and in its simplicity stunning.

My family is from Ouro Preto. I've lived there. I've been in Ouro Preto countless times. And everytime I've been to this small Opera house. And I plan to keep going there every opportunity. Never enough.
