Inexplicably Closed on A Saturday Afternoon
Jun. 2017 • Couples
We tried to visit after lunch on a Saturday and the museum was closed. No signage; no explanation; no will be back soon.

Great Museum/Church
Mar. 2016 • Solo
It was extraordinary to see one of Aleijadinho's biggests work.
Aleijadinho was the architect of the Saint Francisco of Assis's Church, which now is this museum.
The ceil artwork is to die for. The perspective was very well managed so the ceiling of the church really seems an open sky full of angels, saints and divine entities.
Really worth it visit the museum. I'm very annoyed why some people review it poorly. They may not have had a good day.

PS.: can't take pictures inside of the museum/church.

Don't bother: it is closed for renovation!

Some exhibits have been moved to St Francis of Assisi. Check online to see when it opens. Aleijadninho should not be missed; keep an eye out for his work, usually in wood or soapstone, everywhere!

It doesn't worth the visit

There is just one of two pieces really made by 'Aleijadinho'. The only piece I liked is one which shows how the golden columns at the churchs are made (covered with gold).

Not enough Aleijadinho here to justify a trip
Jun. 2012 • Solo
The Museu do Aleijadinho is essentially a small annex to the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. If you do not have a lot of time to spend in Ouro Preto, you should skip this.

I expected many more works by Aleijadinho. In fact only about 10 items appeared to be directly attributed to him. The vast majority of the museum consists of antique religious paraphernalia rather than anything created by Aleijadinho. It's simply not what anything going to a place pointedly called the "Museu do Aleijadinho" would reasonably expect to find.

Note that this museum and the Igreja São Francisco de Assis share the same 8R ticket - so if you pay for one, you can use the same ticket to go see the other, even on a different day.

As is the case in a lot of Ouro Preto museums, you cannot take photos.

Nice to get part of the local genius
But this museum isn't the most interesting thing to do in Ouro Preto.
