A must if you are visiting ouro preto, as it is a historic landmark and is of historical importance, it is free and quite educational.

I've been to this museum specifically to know its underground quarters, where the slaves used to rest. The feeling of the conditions in which they lived is depressing, but it's an important testimonial about the slavery tragedy to our contemporary society (like Auschwitz Camp or the East Berlim basements).

I went with a friend to the museum, the museum it is in an old residency that has its own story. On the basement you can see how slaves used to live and were treated. On the second and third floors is the museum were you can see the evolution of coins and the different types of currency that Brazil... More

Pretty building in the city heart. Former seat of the Treasury. Former prison of inconfidentes. Historical aspects also showing the contrast between the lives of settlers and slaves. We like the windows decorated with privileged views of Ouro Preto. The natural botanical park surrounding the house is absolutely beautiful. It is possible to cross out in another part of Ouro... What s inside the building : painting exhibition and permanent exhibition of old tools etc. It is more the building itself you should concentrate on : it used to be the tax collector office and private house. High ceilings, huge rooms and majestuous staircase. Interesting features : the yard with house water supply, the kitchen and slaves quarters. Gives you... More

Small, nice museum, where you briefly learn about the history of currency in Brazil, and can appreciate the architecture of an old house with ancient slave facilities.

Very interesting house, although the coin collections are a bit small. It´s worth the visit. There is a great view at the top of the house and the part were the slaves lived is also very interesting.

This museum relates the history of the gold mines and their slaves, and is well worth a couple of hours. The part devoted to the life of the slaves was horribly fascinating, and made us ashamed of the way that human beings can treat their fellows. The building itself is also interesting with some very steep stairs to climb. The... More
