Historic patrimony and government house of Espírito Santo, the Anchieta Palace is a jesuit building, wich was erected between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Originaly, the building functined as a church, named Santiago's Church, and as a school, serving to the religious interests until their expulsion in 1759. Passed many modifocation proccesses in the following centuries, the building still as a house of the government, functioning as a cultural place too, where are recepted several itinerant exhibitions, visits in its permanent collection and, specially at saturdays and sundays, visits in the governor's cabinet, passing through old residential wing.

Interesting place - recommended to take the tour inside the former governors palast of Vitoria, at the entrance is a information center that offers free tours inside

When you see this building you must wonder what other beautiful buildings in Vitoria have been destroyed in the name of modernisation. This is a gem amongst the traffic and fumes of the city. I have only ever seen it from the outside but this year I managed to view inside. There isnt that much left of the orginal interior... More

It is one of the few nice places in the old city centre. It is the old Governor's Palace and is open to the public. Well worth a visit if you are in Vitória.
