Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Largo do Campo Grande, also known as Praça 2 de Julho, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone a series of urban transformations throughout its history. A beautiful park and a great leisure space, with monuments and historic buildings all around. It is located in a dynamic cultural center where institutions such as Castro Alves Theater, Vila Velha Theater, Palácio da Aclamação, important colleges and associations such as “Casa d’Italia” and the Bahia Women’s Institute are located nearby.

Salvador is spilit into the lower city and the uppercity for all practical purposes....lovely, ethnic and safe but.....do not wander into the middle Favellas.
Go up top in the lift or delightful cliff rail.
Once up top really it is quite a lovely area tho of course ethnic.
The square is not special but all part of the whole

"Largo do Campo Grande" is also known as "Praça Dois de Julho", honoring Bahia's independence from the Portuguese crown on July 2, 1823. The square dates from the very beginning of the 19th century and has been restored along the years. A magnificent monument, praising the heroes of Bahia's Independence, was erected at its center in 1895. Important theaters ("Teatro Castro Alves" and "Teatro Vila Velha") and the iconic 1949 "Hotel da Bahia" (now totally restored and renamed to "Wish Hotel da Bahia") are within the area. One last remark: "Largo do Campo Grande" is one of the most traditional and important points of celebrations during the Carnival Season in Salvador! Enjoy!

Brazilian cities are not always great for grandiose cityscapes but Camp Grande is an exception. There is a delightfully pompous monument of 1905 in the centre and the seats around provide good relaxation in the eye of the storm that is Salvador's traffic. Talking of which, it is useful city transport hub. Well worth an hour of your time.

A typical square at the centre of a big city. At the centre of the square there is a Monument dedicated to the heroes of the battles of Bahia's independence from Portugal.
If your road brings you to this square you can spent some time to take some photos as every tourist do.

Some Sundays an "antique fair", maybe a book fair, maybe just a place to sit and hang out, to read, to relax, to jog around the perimeter...

Real nice park in the center of the city. Has, at times, vendors of plants and arts and crafts. Beautiful central monument and the fences surrounding the park are worth a few pictures.

The square is quite safe during the daylight, for strolling and daily walking. The old monument at the center commemorates the independence of Bahia on July 2nd, 1823
