According to wikipedia, the area sounding the market "is extremely rich in historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Salvador was the first colonial capital of Brazil and the city is one of the oldest in the New World (founded in 1549...More

Best place to buy souvenirs and gift but definitly not to know Salvador handcraft and culture. You can easily negotiate prices on Sunday when the market only open on mornings.

The market is a nice place to stroll around and buy some souvenirs. It’s quite clean and well kept. Not that much to do apart from that, and the neighborhood doesn’t look so safe.

Generally we thought it to be a bit overrated. Definitely worth visiting. But don't expect something spectacular

I like to visit central markets in cities and compare them. Mercado Modelo in Salvador is not one of the best I've been. Stores sell pretty much the same products (souvenirs, attire, etc.) and there are a few craft products. Sellers are very annoying if...More

The market offers regional products (clothing and handmade, for example). It is small, a bit dirty and hot. I was expecting more, but decided to leave early.

Putting an arts and crafts market into this historic building is a good idea. The noise and activities are overwhelming at times. Watch Capoeira while having refreshments in the restaurant. Also included in the Salvador bus tour!

Hello! You can take a bus at the airport and go to “ praça da sé “ there, you get the Elevador Lacerda and when you arrive down you are in front of it. Good luck!
