Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On our guided tour we stopped at the Dique do Tororó lagoon which contains eight sculptures representing important deities of cult in "Candomblé". These deities are each about 10 feet tall and honour some of the most beloved of the "Orixás" (the African deities). This was a lovely location with beautiful old gnarled trees. Just across the lagoon we saw the new soccer stadium - "Arena Fonte Nova".

Beautiful park for recreation with a lake and also a restaurant. Also, in the park are the orixas in the lake that are stunning in addition to other cultural and religious monuments on the trail. A must see for sure when in Salvador.

While touring Salvador we were interested in learning more about the mystic side of Bahia. We were planning on taking a paid tour of a local Candomble religious ceremony, but felt like we needed to know more about the belief system and its history. As part of our research we heard of the Statutes of the Orishas (Candomble spirit deities) that were in a local lake not far from the Pelourinho district called the Dique do Tororó. The park situated around the lake is very nice with lots of locals running around it. There are clean public bathrooms (but as a tourist be sure to bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer). There is a nice restaurant on the lake along with a rowing company (you can rent boats or take rowing classes). We took a cab from the Pelourinho district to the lake. We did not speak the language so we showed our driver a photo of the deities in the lake out of a tourist book and he knew exactly where we wanted to go. There is a bus stop across from the lake, so you can also take a local public bus there too. We stayed at the park/lake about an hour. We walked around the park and took photos of the statutes. We also took our Salvador history book and sat under a tree where we read the history of the four Orishas spirits and why they were so significant to the Candomble religion. Visiting the lake and seeing the Statutes of the Orishas is something you should do if you have some time and really want to connect with the mystic side of Bahia, but if you do not have time to see it just look at photos of it in tourist books or online. The lake is in a busy urban area which boarders avenues President Costa e Silva and Vasco da Gama, Centennial Avenue and Valley of the barrels (in Portuguese the street names are Presidente Costa e Silva e Vasco da Gama Centenário e o Vale dos Barris). There is not much around there besides the lake.

Not much to see. This is just a lake in the middle of an ugly part of the city. You can pass by car on your way to Pelourinho.

Salvador is the root of Yoruba religion outside of Africa. The eight statues of the Orixás (deities) is beautiful. The park is lovely. The lake is lovely. Even if you do not understand the religion, it is worth a trip to appreciate the artistry.

The old dam - "Dique do Tororó" - dates from the 17th century and was built for defense purposes in the colonial years. Today, the lagoon hosts eight magnificent sculptures representing important deities of cult in "Candomblé", the African religion so present in Brazil's culture and society. The statues, by acclaimed sculptor "Tati Moreno", are about 3m high each one and seem to float over the waters of "Dique do Tororó". The deities honor some of the most beloved "Orixás" (the African deities): "Oxalá, Ogum, Iemanjá, Iansã, Oxóssi, Xangô, Oxum and Nanã". It is sided by the beautiful new soccer stadium - "Arena Fonte Nova". Scenic lightings in the evenings. A quick visit and keep going, there is still so much to be seen in mystical Salvador! Enjoy!

I was all alone as I walked around the Dique. Within a kilometer or so, there are lots of homeless camps (drug addicts, perhaps?) I really wanted to get a few pictures of the Orixás (African/Candomblé goddess statues) in the lake. I got some photos, but the Orixás are far enough from the shore that my cell phone camera had trouble taking good shots. If you had a better camera, you might get better pictures. There appeared to be a boat rental pier and a fishing pier and some kind of boat (yacht?) club on the north end, but everything looked deserted the morning I was there. The north and west shores seemed to be cleaner. The south and west ends, seedier.
