Great way to travel between upper and lower town

This "funicular" runs between Rua do Carmo (Cruz do Pascual) in the upper town and the edge of Comercio in the lower town every few minutes between 7 am and 6 pm and it is free. We found it invaluable for getting between the two areas. Once at the bottom turn left and a 5 minute walk takes you to the shops in Comercio. 5 minutes further is Mercado Modelo.
