The Municipal market's building, which dates from 1893, is an impressive structure that is worth seeing in Manaus. At one end there is a separate wrought iron building that only sells meat. The market also sells fish as well as vegetables that reaches the market by both road and river boats. There's a restaurant inside the main market.

This is a huge indoor & outdoor market stretching over many blocks. As you wander along you must look at ground level as well as above. Shops and vendors offer everything imaginable and something you can't imagine. Food, crafts, clothing, household goods, all jam packed into this Municipal market. Vehicles are permitted but it is best to wander on foot.... More

This is a good starting place to explore. It sells a lot of herbal products in one area. Majority is different fish/seafood section. The sellers are wearing white uniform. Nice, friendly people. They don't mind taking photos but we still asked first.

Visited this as part of a City Tour. Market stands selling meat, fish and artisans pieces. Scored some bottles of cachaça for a good price, and a hand-made hammock for dirt-cheap. Other than that it's mostly souvenirs and a little bit of the local atmosphere. Surprised that some stall owners actually did understand and speak (somewhat) engl;ish. You can tour... More

I personally think that the Mercado Municipal de Manaus, is better than this. It is small and very touristic, but you can find good souvenirs. Don't forget: the neighborhood is very dangerous.

You can get the feeling of been in the past. Very simple stores selling meat, fish and fruits. There are also local artisans pieces. The construction is very original. It is worth visiting. Not for luxury travellers.

Locals say this was built with the same metal used to build the eiffel tower, not sure if it is true, but it is a market with a great charm. Has a bit of everything, fish, meet, fruits, food, medicinal herbs, artisans pieces. Makes for an entertaining walk!

Thank Marcelo Y
