    Impressive Historical Building
An amazing historic building which has a dome on the roof in the Brazilian Flag colours. The architecture makes it one of the most outstanding buildings in Manaus. Tours are available but unfortunately the only day we could visit was when it was closed on Monday. The square around it has plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. A visit to this location is highly recommended.

    Beautiful inside and out
An extraordinary building erected at the height of the rubber boom in the Amazon. The building is well maintained and the workmanship throughout is very impressive. We visited on Christmas Eve but were still able to tour the inside of the opera house, which was a very special experience.

    Very nice
We were given a private concert at the Teatro from our cruise ship. The building is stunning, particularly for a city in the Amazon. It has been restored to its original design with very ornate decorations and architecture. The concert featured a very nice string orchestra, making for a nice evening. Unfortunately, the seats are pretty uncomfortable.....not sure they got completely resotored.

Very nice bldg, inside needs a little renovation. Still nice
The outside facade of the opera house is more impressive than the inside. Whether inside would impress your or not depends upon what other places you have been to in the world. The guided tour in English was nice and the columns, the gallery upstairs has nice meaning and history behind it. But the show theatre is in dire need for facelift. They are already renovating the stage. But the beautiful columns, the box seats, basically the interior needs to be repainted to give it the glory it deserves.

    Beautiful Inside
We had a nice guided tour of the old Opera House. It was easy to just walk up to the door and catch the next tour. The inside is beautiful and our guide pointed out lots of interesting facts as we walked all over. It still operates with shows now and then in the evening.

It was a privilege to watch a performance on the stage of this theatre from the age of the rubber barons (brought back memories from the movie Fitzcarraldo). Getting a schedule online proved impossible and purchasing tickets required the determined assistance of a receptionist at Hostel Manaus, but the show itself was very appropriate to the venue (exploitation of women in the rubber era). Highly recommend if they can make it easy to access and buy tickets!

Extraordinary. You really would think you are in Paris or Venice- but no, you're 1000 miles up the Amazon. We were on a group tour, but I think you have to take a tour - you can't just wander round on your own

The people from Manaus are rightly proud of their magnificent theatre and its well worth the visit to see and admire the work and effort that has gone into building such a lovely building. You can imagine the high society enjoying opera, plays etc in the Amazon basin at the height of the rubber industry creating massive the wealth to build this building.

The Teatro Amazonas is a must-visit landmark in Manaus for anybody interested in architecture or in the arts. You have two options to enjoy the theatre and of course you can do both as we did. First, you can get a tour of the facility to learn more about the design and construction of the theatre and its origins tracing back to the rubber boom that brought Manaus great wealth in the late 19th century. English tours seem to be available at the top of the hour (either hourly or every other hour) and the entrance fees are low. The other option is to go watch a show. There are shows almost daily at 8:00pm and most of them are free! Check out Teatro Amazonas on Instragram to find their schedule for the next few weeks. Be sure to be in line no later than 7:00pm, when the line already starts to snake around the corner. Doors open at 7:30pm and we ended up having great seats at one of the balconies. The performance by the local guitar orchestra with several supporting acts was truly amazing.

This is an extraordinarily wonderful opera theatre! From the outside, it is already wonderful with the colours of the Brazilian flag. The inside is also astonishingly beautiful! I strongly recommend visiting the Amazone theatre and getting a guided tour of around an hour. There are guides that speak English well. The price of the tour is only 20 real. The last English tour is often at 16:45, based on the times we visited. The month of January is the only month in the year that there are no public shows and the artists have a break. I really loved the tour of the Amazone theatre, you get to see the opera room as well as all its inside art. Furthermore, you get an overview of the history of the building. Overall, strongly recommend visiting the Amazone theatre when you visit Manaus.
