Manaus is known for a great many things... most notably the Amazon Forest but one thing that isn't well known is that it housed Brazil's first law school. The Palace of Justice's history of dealing justice is open for all to visit.

We did not have the opportunity to enter this building but it is certainly impressive from the outside. It sits opposite the Teatro Amazonas

I recommend to visitors who know a little history of justice in the state of Amazonas. Break their paradigms about the matter and will be surprised at what you see here!

It was closed when we was there, but the outside is gorgeous and worth a look especially with the historical context of the building and the city.

Just behind the Amazonas Theatre is this lovely building of classical architecture. Even if you can not get in, it's worth taking a look out!

This is a marvellous new classical building but, as it is located just behind the Amazonas Theatre, with many trees in leaf, it gets a bit hidden and runs the risk to be not appreciated. Pay attention!!!

The building is closed due to indecision as to what it can be used for. Really worth looking at the massive statue on the roof. It was commissioned from France to show a blind woman holding the balanced scales of justice. The rubber baron's had...More
