Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I booked this full day tour at the last minute. Because tourism is almost non-existent, some tours weren’t running. Given the price of $150 I had v high expectations that fell flat. Our main guide, the indigenous guide and driver were knowledgeable and pleasant. The landscape is beautiful and we did see some interesting wildlife. The jungle trek - about 45 mins - was educational for flora and the fascinating ways indigenous people use these plants. The included lunch, hosted by the delightful family of our indigenous guide was delicious.
With a tour dependent on Mother Nature some things are beyond anyone’s control. The highlight happened near the end when the guides expertly detected a monkey colony which we stopped to feed with mangoes that had been procured at lunch. For bird watchers, the tour offers a lot. We were unable to to make it across the Rio Negro to the archipelago due to high winds and threatening skies.
I think the tour could easily be accomplished in 1/2 day. There’s a certain amount of monotony of sitting on a hard seat on a boat for hours on end spotting the occasional wildlife. I kept asking myself, “why does this tour cost so much?” Heck, I would have been struck by a small gesture like a pad for the boat seat or a branded face mask. And all I could conclude was it was due to the cost of having 3 people at our disposal for a full day. So when I think about what we saw, I don’t think we needed a full day. I think lowering the price to something like $100 and cutting a hour or two out of the tour would make this more competitive.

One of the largest inland archipelagos, there really isn't much to see here. On a cruise up the Rio Negro, it simply appears as if you were cruising between two river banks. You can't really get the sense of the archipelago from the ground. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful area to sail through.

Many channels, lots of green, monkeys on the tree, beautiful large birth flying (multicolored araras), piranhas on the waters as well as their main predators, caiman crocs and pink river dolphins... The paradise is there.

Anavilhanas is a national park, I went on the dry seaon and was impressed by the endless white sand beaches in the middle of the river! Jungle and beaches together was unexpected , but quite impressive! We saw animals at night, crocodiles, owls, snakes, frogs and lots of birds during the day, unforgetable!

A great place to see the Rio Negro, do some hiking, canoeing, and get a real feel for the area. Because the river is acidic there are very few bugs which is nice. You may be disappointed if you are expecting a lot of animals, they really don't come out much but hide. Saw a few snakes in trees, spiders, one sloth far away, and some birds flying over that's it.

Paradise that you must visit in this life.
Wonderful beaches with white sand, picnic in beautiful places, invigorating bath river at sunset in the company of botos, a kind of amazonic dolphin. I went there with Turismo Consciente agency. They are great, specialized in Amazon. I learned that they organized a trip to Anavilhanas to the New Year's Eve 2014/2015 (www.reveillonnaamazonia.com.br). I think it will be a beautiful journey. I hope to be present.

This was one of the most amazing places I have ever been to in Brazil. I ventured into the Archipelago with the Amazon Clipper Cruises aboard the Premium river boat (see my review of the boat in "The Amazon"). I visited the area up close in a canoe to see the flora and fauna.

Written 2 November 2016
