Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and me took the scenic route ie. we walked to the top of the hill and it was well worth it. Great view of the surroundings and Trebinje itself. Also pay trubute to the great Jovan Dučić.

The Hercegovačka Gračanica monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Trebinje, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Largely a copy of the Gračanica monastery in Kosovo, it was completed in 2000. The monastery is located above the city, on the historic Crkvina Hill, and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

This is one of rare beautiful discoveries: an amazing small church on the mountain, overlooking town of Trebinje, and having own small museum, souvenirs, handworks and book shop, nice garden and some live animals outside (rabbits and a donkey - which is huge fun for children). Besides live animals, there is also a playground and nice resting places around.
Herzegovinian Gracanica is a Serbian monastery/church and exact copy of Gracanica Monastery in Kosovo, built in 2000. The church is dedicated to poet Jovan Ducic, whose remains were transferred from the United States and buried in the crypt of the monastery church. The church is decorated with amazing drawings and impressive motifs, and has overall small but neatly arranged space.
It is very peaceful there. Some tourists, but not many. Cozy small museum and souvenir shop which allows you to gaze around to your heart content. Most importantly, it is not overpriced: we bought great illustrated history guides about monasteries for as much as 9 KM (4,5 EUR), and there are great photo albums for about 30 KM (15 EUR). There is no entry ticket or any additional charges.
Interesting: The temple can be seen from any point in Trebinje. However, finding it with own transport can be bit tricky, even when Trebinje is quite small city.

Beautiful...peaceful (albeit there were no tourists there when we got there at 10am!...and views which should not be missed. The shop is better laid out than some museums we've been to...and the staff are lovely and helpful.

I went here in August with my hosts from Trebinje, and though I have a drone the view was worth driving there for. And it's only about 20 minutes from the entrance of Trebinje. The monastery itself has beautiful paintings inside and makes for a good photograph background from the outside. From this area, you can see a whole view of Trebinje city and the rivers flowing below. You can see all the bridges and sunset here is especially beautiful. There is also a small restaurant situated next to the monastery where you can drink the local wine whilst observing the view. This place should be on your list if you're interested in photography and if you want a different perspective.

Completed in 2000 this Serb Orthodox church is meant to be very similar to Gracanica monastery in what is now Kosovo. The latter monastery (on UNESCO's world heritage list) is of great symbolic importance to the Serb nation as it was built in the 14th century on the Kosovo field where an important battle took place between Serb forces and the Ottoman Turks. This battle in 1389 was lost by the Serbs (and Christian Europe). Ever since it played a role in nationalist propaganda. After Serbia 'lost' Kosovo in 1999 another Gracanica was realized here in Trebinje.

Located on a hilltop with a nice view over Trebinje. Large parking lot and facilities such as public toilet, shop with religious itens and souvenirs. Friendly attendants.

You can easily walk there from the town center. It is 2.6 km. Elevation difference 125m.

Trebinje is a wonderful town, filled with friendly, accommodating and warm people.
A couple of these people took me on an impromptu trip to see the incredible church and views from the top of the mountain.

There is a bell tower you can see from the photos in this listing, it has no signs or barriers around it and a rope beneath it which controls the bells. The purpose of the bell tower is not immediately clear, but it summons a troll.

More specifically, if an idiot tourist, like myself, decides to pull on the hanging rope; the troll with appear and attack you.

I was punched, twice by a man in his 50s, who did not find my apologies sufficient. Luckily his large, globular hands did not cause any damage, but the incident was enough to terrify my hosts.

Advice to management would be to install a sign to avoid any other idiots like me ringing the bell and make sure nobody else is attacked.

Loved this place. Great views, free parking and an interesting church complete with nearby giftshop and a cool restuarant with childrens play ground attached. The best sight in the area with great sweeping views over Trebinje and surrounding areas.

Worth the effort and clearly signposted from the city.

Sorry to start my review with that title BUT they were. There was excrement on the seats, blocked toilets, open used sanitary pads all over the floor.( And I do mean all over)...😷 this should not be. The church shop and surrounding areas are relatively new and spotless. The church is beautiful in a beautiful peaceful spot.
Sorry you only get a three star on account of the toilets. They really need to be checked on a regular basis!!
