We went over the border from Herceg Novi in Montenegro. No hassles at all at the border control. We were through in 5 minutes. No queue at all really. The toll booth is now derelict so no till to be paid. The roads were very quiet on the Bosnian side and we get to Trebinje in just over half an hour. Parking was easy enough but remember that Bosnia doesn't have the Euro and they have their own currency (Bosnian Mark or BAM). However, we found all the cafes and shops took Euros but not all took cards. The Old Town is quite small but very quaint and very sleepy. If you want the high energy, masses of people then go to Mostar as Trebinje is much quieter and laid back. We enjoyed just chilling and wandering near empty streets at lunchtime. It was like having the Old Town all to ourselves. Food and drink is well priced and a little bit cheaper than UK/Montenegro. All the menus are in BAM so it's almost half the price for Euro/GBP. We enjoyed a relaxed four hours here doing a walk around the Old Town, Freedom Square and the main park. If you wanted a reason to wander you could do "spot the fountain". They have a surprisingly large amount of them. The drinking fountain in Freedom Square is proper cold!

Very much enjoyed walking the old town area, located only 40 minutes from Dubrovnik and very easy to get to, even border crossing nice and simple.

Not being a large city easy to walk around and see most of the city in 2 - 4 hours, I visited on the way back to Dubrovnik from Mostar and glad I did.

Really good mixture of old and new and a lovely river runs through city.

If you are after a few different cities to see in Bosnia then this is a good one.

The old town of Trebinje is very easy on the eye. The town of Trebinje is the southernmost in Bosnia and dits on the Trebišnjica river.

A picturesque town surrounded by mountains with a very interesting past and history. Well worth a look when in nearby Croatid. The Tvdus monastery is near by and makes a good opportunity to visit both on a day trip.

Old Town Trebinje is not Dubrovnik or Mostar...
So do not go out of your way to see it. But if you are already there you might as well walk through. It is a pleasant walled city with the old houses, some guest houses and many restaurants. The main attraction is the large ice-cream parlor with dozens of sundaes and desserts sure to delight adults and children alike!

When you're standing in long lines in Dubrovnik, getting jostled by the multitudes of tourists and cruise line passengers, and you're tired of paying the exorbitant fees to access the city walls or having a meal, consider this:

Just 40 kilometers north of Dubrovnik exists a quiet town in the Republic of Srpska, an autonomous region within Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Why go here? To get out of Dubrovnik. There are various ways to get there (bus, car), but we found a taxi\tourist kiosk in Dubrovnik that arranged a driver and car to get us to Trebinje. Cost was $150 USD, but it was worth it. The young driver was from Trebinje and he quickly agreed to drive us there because it gave him a chance to visit his grandmother while he dropped us off at a great restaurant following his guided tour of his home city.

Trebinje is a quiet, attractive town that is worth a visit if you're interested in exploring something outside of crowded and expensive tourist locations. You won't see many tourists here. It's off the beaten path. But, that is what attracts us. And, if you're interested in visiting another country (or two, if you agree with Srpska's independence), take the time and spend the few additional dollars you'd spend doing tourist stuff in Dubrovnik and come here.

We LOVED our visit to Trebinje. The Old City is a beautiful place to go for a stroll. This walled area has stone buildings, beautiful medieval churches, fountains and quaint shops. The area just outside the walled section is a great spot to stop for lunch or have a drink. People were friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Prices are reasonable here. It's only a half hour away from Dubrovnik, and honestly we enjoyed Trebinje more than we did Dubrovnik. I highly recommend spending time in Trebinje.
**Please note that if you are traveling by car from Dubrovnik to Trebinje, you will cross the border. There is very little wait going from Croatia to Bosnia. Going into Bosnia is quick and easy. However, going from Bosnia into Dubrovnik is another story. Most inefficient border crossing I've ever seen. Be prepared to spend at least two hours at the border. There is only one booth, and apparently there is no good time to cross. We went early (7:00) a.m. hoping to avoid a long wait but still waited 2 hours. It is apparently not unusual to spend 3-4 hours in line.

7 out of 10 so 3.5. Interesting walkabout within old city walls. Lots of cafe/restaurants, a museum, mosques and angelika's gate. Good instant pizza place and in the west gate entrance a quaint alcove with seller of alcohol in wee bottles at 3 euros which makes a neat taster/ souvenir.

Trebinje is a quite small city and can be considered as a piece of pearl hidden in the Balkan region.

The Old Town has several historical monuments such as mosques and churches left by ancient civilizations (Ottoman usually).

You can find cafes, bars and restaurants to taste both local and international dishes and beverages.

The Old City runs beslde the Neretva River and has a unique inner fortress.

Please come and feel the atmosphere came from centuries.

It was established in the 18th century. The main square, Trg Svobode is very pleasant, with small coffee shops restaurants, old stone houses, chesnuts.
