We stopped here since our drive took us literally right by it, and we'd heard that it was very historic. It was definitely a nice spot to get out of the car and move around a little bit, and the entrance fee (4 KM) was low. That said, we knew only the barest outline of historical information about these tombstones and thus did not fully appreciate all that was there to see. I'm sure it would be much better if you visited with a guide, but for us it was mainly a chance to spend 15 minutes out of the car, stretching our legs, and buying an ice cream from the small visitors center.

Stopped on the way back to Cavtat. A very interesting visit with our guide although I probably wouldn’t have visited independently. It is located near to a busy road which takes away from what should be a very peaceful location for an ancient burial site.

We (family with 3 kids) drove into the parking lot, we read the information sign, we used the toilet and then decided to leave because our kids had no interest in looking at this necropolis. Then the friendly but very persistent man from the visitor center told us that we must pay at least two entrance fees for using the toilet. I am 48 now and this never happened to me before ..., not to mention that there was no sign in the toilet, that it is not free of charge.

This place was recently added to the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage and it definitely deserved it. Stecaks are medieval tombstones and you can find it mostly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a smaller number in the bordering countries. There is a total of 133 tombstones here and some are beautifully decorated. Entrance fee is 4 KM (cca 2 euros) for individual visits. If you want to buy souvenirs (fridge magnets) with motives of this necropolis, go to the mosque next to "Inat ćuprija" in city of Stolac and you'll find it there. Do not miss this necropolis in Radimlja.

Great remainder of the history of area. Yet situated across the whole country, the largest collection on one place is Radimlja. Still in very good shape and condition. Very well worth to visit.

The necropolis on Radimlja is the best known site containing stećci, the medieval tomb stones. It is located 3 km west of Stolac, along the Stolac – Čapljina road.

The necropolis is among the most valuable monuments of the medieval times in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are: large number of samples, reliefs and titles mentioning historical personalities. there are 63 of them decorated, but 133 in total.
The characteristic motives of stećci of this necropolis are: architectural ornaments on all four sides of stećci, stylized crosses, human and animal figures, grapevine, hunting and weapon motives. The characteristic feature of this necropolis is a male figure with a raised arm and relatively big hand and fingers.
There is a charge of 3€ per person to enter the historical site.

White limestone medieval tombstones. They were in a secluded cemetery and are currently a UNESCO world heritage site.

This is a medieval cemetery not far from Mostar 33km or so and easy drive. It was my first time ever to see a medieval necropolis and I was fascinated with the motives on the tombestones. It seems that the road kind of passed through the cemetery area as you can see some more tombestones scattered on the opposite side of the road too.

The necropolis of Radimlja is just became part of Worl Heritage.
These medieval tombstones are called "Stecci" and are dated from the 12th to 16th centuries.
Many burials are decorated in bas relief showing hunting scenes, knights, animals and holy symbols.
The visit and discovery of these tombstones was very interesting.

Also known as the Radimilja Necropolis, this large site contains a large number of limestone tombstones of historical significance. It is located in Vidovo polje, 3 km west of Stolac, on the Čapljina-Stolac road.

There are very interesting carvings on the stones and you either need to read about it beforehand or hire a local guide. Some information is available at the information centre.
