I’m not too keen on large cities, but I loved Banja Luka. We spent five days there and I would happily return (although am planning to explore the southern Bosnia later this month). Banja Luka is an elegant, buzzing, very European city, there are some landmarks (like the Cathedral or a nearby mosque) that shouldn’t be missed on your visit. Some parts of Banja Luka reminded me of Poland in the 1990s, but the city centre is very modern, extremely clean, with lots of restaurants with tables outside, a massive shopping mall and a charming marketplace featuring local produce, flowers, plants, etc. The locals are extremely friendly and helpful. There are lots of green spaces in the city - you can take a short hike to Banj Brdo to admire the gorgeous views of Banja Luka from the top, there’s a nature park not far from the centre, free thermal springs, or you can just walk along the banks of the beautiful Vrbas river (the river has many currents, but there are several safe areas where you can a dip on a hot day).

The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Banja Luka, built between 1993-2004, features a neo-Byzantine style. Externally, it features pink and yellow travertine from Mesopotamia. The dome, 22.5 m high, is made of steel and gold, while the bell tower reaches 47 m. Luxurious interiors include religious paintings and quality craftsmanship. Mandatory visit to Banja Luka.

From the outside, the church is pretty. (Maybe it is from the inside too, but we couldn't go inside). Perhaps what I like more about the aesthetics of the church itself, though, is the plaza kind of area/feel around the church--full of families and little kids on a Saturday morning. Nice place to hang out/meet up/socialize/let the kids play.

Orthodox Cathedral. In the heart of Banja Luka, built between 1993 and 2004 in neo-Byzantine style on the site of the old Church of the Holy Trinity destroyed during World War II. The interior is beautifully decorated in every corner. Free admission.

Construction of this cathedral was initiated in 1993 in the middle of the Bosnian war. It is almost identical to a church at the same location demolished by people in 1941. The church was not rebuilt during socialist times. At the site was a monument to fallen partizans (moved to a corner of the square).

Completed in 2004 the Byzantine style cathedral looks colorful and festive. A 47m high tower dominates the main structure which is actually not very large, but compact and perhaps because of that more graceful. The interior is covered with brightly colored frescoes of saints, Christ the Saviour being the most prominent among them.

I observed numerous believers kissing a relic at the center of the main wall with icons. As if there is no corona around.

Fourth version. Three earlier drafts censored by Tripadvisor.

This is a very nice cathedral right in the heart of the city center where everything takes place. It is adjacent to a well kept park also full of old buildings. If one is in the city center, one cannot miss it.

Originally built shortly before WWII, demolished by the Croatian Quislings (ustasa) in 1941, and re-built a decade ago, Christ the Saviour cathedral follows the Serbian-Byzantine architectural canon. It cannot be awarded a "5" however because the tower is too tall -- by soaring ca. 20ft more than desirable, it undermines the harmony of the edifice.

Much money and pride has been poured into the construction of this church. The history of being demolished by Nazis and rebuilt after Communist Tito times is striking. What I dislike is the 4Cs (S in Cyrillic) carved into the gorgeous wooden altar. Never have I seen a Serbian Orthodox church with that symbol. Only Unity Saves the Serb(s) is how it was translated to me. It seemed nationalistic to me which fits the recent history of Banja Luka and Republika Srpska. I've seen churches in Ukraine and Russia and Greece that were much nicer.

With the remnants of the former church, destroyed in WW2, this new building is clearly worthy to take its place as a must-see point in Banja Luka.

Very nice Church in “hart” of Banjaluka, which has been rebuild in 2004, after bombarding by German Nazy army in 1941 and totally destroyed by Croatian fascistic regime during II World War.
Now Church has identical look as it was originally in 1929. I recommend to be visited.
