Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Abu Bakr Mosque is the main Muslim religious building, which is located in the very center of Shkodra. Moreover, on a relatively small urban “patch” measuring approximately 300 by 300 meters, three sacred places, representing the main religious faiths of Albania, “huddled” together: the Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity, the Catholic Cathedral of St. Stephen and the Muslim Abu Bekr Mosque (aka Xhamia Ebu Beker, Xhamia e Madhe or Ebu Bekr Mosque).
The latter is a very nice new building, which was built relatively recently - only in 1995. Previously, this very spot was the site of the Fushë Çela Mosque, which was destroyed during the communist era during the so-called Cultural Revolution. The “repose in God” mosque was smaller, more unprepossessing, and in the photo I found on the Internet from 1917, it looked like a modest rectangular two-story building under a hip roof with a minaret spire protruding from one of the sides.
Already in the 90s of the 20th century, a decision was made to build a new Muslim “heart” of Shkodra, and the construction was sponsored by the Saudi businessman Sheikh Zamil Abdullah Al-Zamil. The consecration of the sacral is very noteworthy - it bears the name of Abu Bakr Abdallah ibn Abi Kuhaf, the first caliph of the Islamic theocratic state - the Rashidun Caliphate.
The mosque, square in plan, covers an area of more than six hundred square meters and can accommodate 1,300 believers. The height of the dome is 24 meters. At the base of the dome there are huge semi-circular windows, adding volume, natural light and a kind of architectural “airiness” to the structure. The two minarets with one single shurfe or sharaf (balcony for the muezzin) have a height of 41.11 meters. Xhamia Ebu Beker in the Albanian Shkoder, despite its new construction, is a very nice and photogenic object. Highly recommend!!!

Magnificent mosque. Very bright and beautiful with its several blue colors. We were able to visit it, outside of times of prayer. This visit is absolutely a must-do. It is located in the city center. At night it is beautiful with the lighting. Free visit

The large Ebu Bekr Mosque, which is the focal point of the local Muslim community, dominates Shkoder's city centre.Built on the side of old an Ottoman Mosque , the current mosque was built in 1995 with funds from Saudi Arabia and Egypt and the official name is Sheik Zamil Abdullah Al -Zamil Mosque. The Ebu Bekr Mosque has been extensively renovated in 2008. The inside is bright yet a bit plain .

Beautiful place with a great architecture. Very friendly persons and a calm place in the middle of a big city. It is known more commonly to locals as the Great Mosque. It dates back from the 18th century, but was fully renovated and refaced in 1995 with donations from Saudi Arabia. Take a look inside as visitors are welcome to enter outside prayer time to see the beautiful interior and enjoy the contemplative atmosphere.

Strolled around the beautiful city centre of Shkoder especially the pedestrian street of Pjaca/Rruga Kole Idromeno which was deserted in the afternoon. This tourist showcase street of Shkoder has a Grand Mosque named Al-Zamil Mosque ,a Orthodox church named Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ and a Catholic church named St Stephen's Catholic Cathedral in close proximity to each other on either sides of the street. The Al-Zamil Mosque is beautiful and the lawns well maintained. Shkoder has a large Christian Catholic and Muslim population with a minority of Orthodox Christians.

If you are in the city center you cannot miss this beautiful mosque. It's bright and shining. Worth seeing at night under the moon. The inside is nothing special. Better to seek a guide if you want to see from inside and want to understand the history and culture. As I stayed near it, I saw this mosque many times.

A rather attractive mosque set in a garden/park in the center of the city. The garden/park is a bit unmkempt but that is consistent with city parks in Shkodra. The mosque was locked up so we could not go inside.
