Shkoder (aka Shkodër, Shkodra, Skadar) is simply a place in Albania that “breathes” history on the shores of the picturesque Lake Skadar. It seems logical to found a city closer to the coast of the Adriatic Sea - it’s only about twenty miles away. But no - it was here, in an area far from the plain, but next to the confluence of the Buna and Drina rivers, that one of the oldest and most famous cities in Albania arose back in the 4th century BC.
Or maybe it’s all about the beauty and indescribable lake aura of Lake Skadar? Maybe it was they who, back in the 4th century BC, attracted the Ilyrian peoples of the Labeates and Ardiei to these heaven-blessed places? The lakes are surrounded by mountain ranges and are in themselves very attractive (and Lake Shkoder is backed by the mountains of the Dinaric Highlands from the south and southwest, and by the foothills of the Prokletije massif from the northeast).
I remember the indelible impressions that the Italian Como and Garda, the Slovenian Bled, the Swiss Lac Leman and Zurichsee, the French Annecy, the German Königssee made on the author of these lines... A lake in the mountains is just a song!!! “Song” of nature... And the views of Lake Shkoder, by the way, the largest on the Balkan Peninsula and located on the territory of two countries - Montenegro and Albania - once again convinced me of the correctness of the idea that:
"Landscapes of lakes in the mountains
Memories awaken.
They come to me in my dreams
And everything around instantly comes to life...”
And I am ready to subscribe to every word of the above lines by Louise Zelenina. By the way, according to a number of researchers, Lake Skadar was once a bay of the Adriatic Sea, which over time was separated from it by an alluvial isthmus. The places on the banks of Shkodra are amazingly beautiful and picturesque, and if you are a fan of nature tourism, then you should definitely come here!!! I definitely recommend it.

Lake shkodra Camping Resort is located directly on the lake. The lake is very shallow and very warm in summer. A 50 meter jetty goes directly from the meadow ( with free sunbeds and umbrellas ) into the deeper water. The restaurant is very good, the staff attentive and accommodating. The camping service is great. Friendly, multilingual, helpful. The mini supermarket is open between 9.00 and 17.00 and everything you need and at civilian prices. Large playground and a volleyball court as well as a table tennis table complete a very good clean resort.

This is a lovely lake with amazing views. There are several boat tours you can do to enjoy the lake to its fullest potential. The Montenegro side seems to have a bit more to offer, or at least that is what we found most accessible. The Nature Reserve is quite nice.

If you're staying in Shkodër, a cycle around the lake is a must. Beautiful scenery and quiet pebble beaches await. Cows and horses roam freely, and there are plenty of birds to spot (and even a small bird-watching hide a little further down the road from Shiroka). There is an abandoned building on the way to the town, which you can walk around for €1. It's quite a strange look-out but worth your time, to get some lovely views. Shiroka itself has a few small cafes and restaurants, stop by for some lunch or a drink by the water front.

A little lake between Albania and adjacent Montenegro. Nice restaurant overlooking the lake with varieties of food. There is a small area for nice panoramic views over the lake. Not to be missed if you are visiting the city of Shkoder.

Overrated! Don’t waste your time and money. They over sell the experience and wildlife you will see. We saw 2 birds - common birds. You will spend 2 hours in the hot sun sitting on a slow moving boat-seeing lily pads and that is about it. A long drive with toll bridges - parking is almost impossible. A wasted day!

The cruise on Shkodra Lake was very sad. It is chaotic at the boat launch. The boats are filled to capacity with little room to move around. First half hour was very pretty BUT then the rest of the lake cruise was FULL OF TRASH. So sad. The boat companies need to get together and get big nets and clean it up if they want to continue to have tourist.

The views from the castle and especially Sarisalltik mountain were amazing. Thanks to our tour guide as he was very knowledgeable about the culture and history of the area and was friendly which made our lives easier during the tour. One of the best for bird spotting. I have visited this place before and must congratulate for uplifting the restaurants and cafes around also that there are good roads from Shkoder to Shiroka to cycle and that’s what loads of people do early mornings. Well done for spirit of community doing so. The night life is something else over there, kind of loud type, but hey if I don’t like, others do, right. The Place is majestic if I can put it in words and should be more look after. And yes, what a lovely, delightful lunch by the lake. Btw, No Ones wears Masks over there.

Amazing place and one of the best in Albania for birdspotting. I would highly recommend. I have visited this place before and must congratulate for uplifting thebrestaurants and caffess arround also that there are good road from Shkoder to Shiroka to cycle and thats what loads peoople do early mornings. Well done for spirit of community doing so. I must only critisize the boat which is used at night with very loud music and lights. Im sure its fun and attractive but for wildlife its probably not. I would also like to see improovement in jext few years in getting reed of dirt and trash . Please Do Appereciate what you have!! Place is really magic and should be more look after. Highly recommend to visit.
