My wife and I visited the Blue Eye while on a cruise that stopped for the day in Sarande. This is a must see natural phenomenon of fresh water flowing up from within the earth to form the source of the Bistrice river. Supposedly, at a rate of around 18000 liters per second. When we visited, the surrounding area was... More

We chose to visit this location which was offered on a cruise ship sponsored excursion. We were surprised at the beauty of the area as well as the actual "blue springs". Ferns and other tropical plants were in abundance. Quite a surprise ...in the middle of a rather sparse and barren landscape.

This is a hidden jewel. You would never believe it exists behind dirt and rock roads. The spring is a natural phenomenon and when looking directly down at it, it looks like a blue eye looking back at you. The sound of the water, the electric blue water, it teams with life --thousands of trees, vines, flowers, etc. There is... More

Does one drink the water? Dive into the water? Just look at the water? it is an interesting drive to get to the site but it was full of tourist buses on the day we were there. I'm sure the locals curse the day that someone decided to include it on a tour itinerary. The water is a pretty colour... More

Our driver brought us here after visiting Butrint and we loved it. The Blue Hole is itself interesting to look at but what makes this place special is that (1) it is quite a fun drive to get there (I'm happy I was not driving) and (2) it is a nice place to enjoy a coffee/beer/espresso directly on the river... Not easy to get there by public transport. However worth of effort. Perfect place to enjoy beauty of the nature. Cascades of crystal clear freezing water flowing down the mountains and coming out of 50m depth natural well. After short walk you can enjoy meal in restaurant located at platform over the river.

Very nice place for a short visit. The nature is superb... There was a small eating place under renovation due to the season we visited but the suroundings were beatiful. A nice place to visit if you are around.

No doubt, it is impressive to see, but is it worth travelling there on a very bad access road? Some people like to jump into the extremely cold water.

Not wanting to pay the cruise excursion price, we decided to wing it and see what we could do in the port of Sarande to visit the Blue Eye. We were able to book a mini-van tour at a considerable cheaper price. Our driver picked us up at the information center and took us to the Blue Eye. There is... More
