Spent hours walking around this huge, beautiful park. While the best time to visit is in Spring when the plentiful cherry trees are blossoming (and Fall provides colourful trees), Winter has its own attraction, the snow. In week 2 of December when we were there, snow had covered most of the ground, benches and parts of the trees. Water in... More

Hirosaki Park Feng night (弘前公園夜楓) happened to be one of the high points of our 2016 Autumn leaf-viewing Trip. We were awed at the distinct colors and shapes of autumn maple leaves shown under diverse colored lights.

Hirosaki park is a spacious park around the Hirosaki Castle area. There are numerous sights here, including a botanical garden and Hirosaki Castle itself. There is a combined ticket for the castle park, botanical garden and nearby Fujita Memorial Garden available. The remains (reconstruction) of the castle are small and isn't much to look at, but the park itself offers... More

The park is beautiful. Even though I was not there during the Cherry Blossom season it was still an amazing site and very peaceful. The landscape is superb.

This photo of the "castle" is deceiving as it is only a small portion of what was a large structure in the past. The palace grounds are nice to walk through but choose a mild season

While the castle itself may not be much to look at or provide that wow factor; the overall landscape and views that the park itself provide are more then enough. The many vibrant colors and peaceful walk that the park provides was very pleasant and worth the trip out. I would recommend this to any couple looking to relax or... More

The castle itself is of modest scale. However, you can watch the perfect shape of Iwaki mountain top. You can also walk the gardens in front of the castle.

We visited the botanical gardens (310 yen per person) in late October when there was some chrysanthemum flower festival. These were in pots and of different colours but did not have the wow factor. There were some autumn colours among the trees but again scattered and unimpressive. The park had few visitors on that day which added to the ho... More

The park is full of sakura, so every year around end of April (check their website for actual date) Hirosaki Park/Castle hold a Sakura festival. It was beautiful, one of the best destination for you to enjoy sakura and do nothing. Just bring some foods (long row of food stalls available in the castle park) and enjoy your hanami. There... A not very interesting park. We didn't visit the castle as those in Japan have mostly been rebuilt in modern and don't have anything in them.
