We stopped because of its location. It is on the New River and just has beautiful views. Discovered some interesting history. My husband loved learning the history of making lead shot for the War of 1812 and some say for the Civil War as well....More

I stopped by here one afternoon while traveling through VA. Interesting to learn that lead mined nearby was turned into shot by pouring molten lead through a screen and having it fall down the stone tower into a water pool. Beautiful stonework for the time....More

The shot tower itself is only open for tours on Friday/Saturday/Sunday, but on weekdays you can hike or bike on the shaded trail along the water. Car parking pass costed $4 on weekday.

Nice little park off I-77. They made bullets and buckshot here. Walk to the top . Info available. Overlooking The New River and the New River Trail runs by here. Worth the stop for us.
