A bit of outdoor adventure in the heart of DC

You have have a taste of wilderness here, just a few minutes walk from Georgetown. No great challenges, just a walk around a small, flat island that's mostly unbuilt. There is a... read more

We went to the the monument which is on the island. You park and walk across bridge to island then a little hike to monument area. It has many quotes that flank the monument of Roosevelt. There is also other hiking areas that you can walk. It was very shaded though it was humid but hey it was July.

This is an island in the Potomac River just east of Rosslyn and west of the Lincoln Memorial on the Mall. I does have a trail that goes around the island and some of it is boardwalk over marshy area. It is not very well kept up. They keep it naturalized, which is fine, but it seems to be very... More

The man had a way with words, to bad our leaders have forgotten about the American people, if they still cared as much as some have in the past, think of what a great nation this would be.

This is a park that is low on most peoples priority list and for good reason. It is not well maintained and for the effort to get there, not worth the time given the hundreds of other attachtions in the city. It's too bad too since Teddy Roosevelt was such a great president and outdoorsman.

You have have a taste of wilderness here, just a few minutes walk from Georgetown. No great challenges, just a walk around a small, flat island that's mostly unbuilt. There is a memorial to TR that's not terrible. Nice views of parts of DC over the water. Some wildlife. Kids can't get into too much trouble on the island. If... More

This memorial was very good despite the hot weather and a myriad of water fountains located throughout the area. It would be nice to see more park rangers about to give better insight on Theodore Roosevelt throughout the day as many people came as visitors and tourists.

Despite living in DC for several years, I had not yet made it to this park- what a nice place! When on the trail it felt like we were a ways from the city, but then when we got close to the water there were excellent views of DC. The memorial is a bit strange- very Soviet in appearance, but...
