We are in the business of improvisational theatre. We make up all our comedy, plays, and sketches on the spot (unless otherwise noted). Short form, long form, Chicago-Style, NY-Style, CA-Style, Austin-Style - we do it all (especially Austin-Style, it's our specialty). We host and produce improv shows Thursday through Sunday. For some of the shows, we invite independent groups to perform (everything you see on Thursday night, for instance) and some of the shows we personally produce (everything you see on Saturday night, for instance).

In addition, the Hideout is downtown Austin's oldest independent coffee house. We are open morning to night, weekdays and weekends and serve beer, wine, fresh sandwiches, pastries, ice cream, as well as an assortment of beverages and coffee drinks.

We proudly feature vegan ice cream from our friends at Sweet Ritual and our specialty craft cocktails were designed by Laura Nixon of Bad Dog Barcraft. You can bring food and drink from the coffee house up into the theatre to enjoy during a performance!

Small, cosy cafe. Friendly atmosphere with a lot of traffic in and out of the place. The coffee was delicious as were the sandwiches. The improv is at night but since we couldn't make it then, we decided to soak in the place in the afternoon. Great little place to take a load off after touring the Capitol

Went to The Hideout with our two teenage children and we all had a great time. The three improv groups were all very entertaining and the 90 minute entertainment was great. The groups each performed very differently and the original skits were very funny. Would definitely recommend going here if in Austin and looking for something different to do...

I found The Hideout while on an extended work trip to Austin. Located in an easy to find spot in downtown the theater has a nice cafe to go along with its 2 theaters. First the club has top notch shows - the amateur improv performers are Austins best by far. I have been going for several weeks now while... More

Not fancy but very funny right over a coffee shop and a lot of fun you can get drinks downstairs and bring them with you.

This place is both a theater and a coffee shop. The coffee is very good, they serve "cortado" which is my favorite and the ambiance is really laid back.
