Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fun place to learn the two-step, although it can be crowded. Country type bar with live music. Friendly people. Great place to go just to have a good time, drink some beer and dance a little!

I took a large group of people to the White Horse and we had been there for awhile, and after most of us had left, we were accosted by their bouncers and removed from the bar in a very unpleasant manner. If there was any justification or the slightest wrong doing on our end, I would not be writing this post. We asked why were being told to leave, and they could not give us the reason. I think the bouncers were looking to get into a fight, and we seemed like ones that were going to give it to them. We kept our heads and avoided hospitals and jail, so that was the only positive.
The way we were treated was so bad, that I feel like this is not a place I can recommend to any visitor or Austin resident. I've lived here for 20 years, and have never been treated like this by staff from a bar. Spend your money elsewhere people.

If you like places with overly aggressive, belligerent tough guy bouncers, White Horse is the place for you. My wife, daughter and I went to White Horse last weekend with a group of about 30 people after a wedding rehearsal dinner. We got there early, paid our $5 cover, looked around the rather unremarkable bar, listened to some bad country music, then went outside to wait for the rest of the group.
Unbeknownst to us, a couple of people in the group tried to sneak in an 18-year old by switching IDs.
The bouncer got quite angry, came to the parking lot and ordered anyone standing in the same general area as the offending parties to leave the premises.
We had no knowledge of any attempt to use someone else's ID, or any other attempt to get an underage person into the bar.
We tried to explain to the bouncer that we were innocent bystanders, but he refused to listen, instead threatening to call the police, using profanity, and physically pushing me toward the sidewalk.
I continued to try to explain, to no avail. He was obviously looking for a fight and trying to provoke us. Bottom line: he embarrassed and humiliated our family, while the people who actually tried to get the underage person in were already in the bar.
I'll never go near the place again. Who needs strong arm, bullying tactics when you're out to have a good time?

After seeing who was playing and wanting to take family out to see one of our faves play and AFTER CHECKING THEIR WEBSITE...3 50 year olds and a teen went to White Horse on an early Sunday evening only to be kicked out because we had a 16 year old. The website said this was fine as long as they were with their parent the whole time. We had plenty of parents and the kid was not drinking. And the plan was to stay for the early show and leave. Bar tenders decided today was not the day. And they were RUDE!

Used to be a great place, but the rude doormen and the bartenders are unbelievable. Don't waste your time and money.

I don't know if they ever clean this place. The bathrooms were disgusting. The place smelled like someone had thrown up and there was a 5 dollar cover charge...won't be back. There are plenty of other good bars in Austin to listen to music and hang out with friends.

Large dance floor & music was great... 3 performers that kept things lively.
They even asked people to back-up off the dance floor so that 2-steppers had room!
I loved it!!

I had a great time the first time I went to The White Horse 6 months ago so I decided to look up what was going on this last trip. The bands looked good so I dropped in as I had to wait for my host to get home to let me in. I asked for a ginger ail. The bartender told me it'd be a ginger beer. Ginger beer has alcohol in it which is obviously not an acceptable substitute. I replied, thinking he hadn't heard me correctly, that I wanted a ginger ail. The elohssa immediately took an attitude to tell me he didn't have any. The only reason this isn't a terrible review is because the bands were remarkably good. (And who the hell doesn't have ginger ail?)

We were recommended this bar by our hotel staff as a good starting point for 6th st.
It looks like a typical dive bar and a little sketch from first appearances.
However, once inside, one can see why it’s a little gem. Aldo, our bartender was especially cool. The drinks are stiff and fair. No more than 20 minutes after entering, the establishment went from 6 people to about 45 as the working class came in for happy hour. The atmosphere is relaxing and laid back. I would make this a regular retreat if local and recommend to anyone👍🏼.
