Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Congress Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares in Austin and can encompass many things. There wasn't actually much of interest on the stretch of Congress north of the river between 1st and 11th St although nearby 6th Street and Rainey Street is where all the action happens. However, experiencing the bats at Congress Ave Bridge has become a must-see experience in Austin and South Congress has a reputation of being a great nightlife scene

I parked in a parkade in downtown Austin to check out the famous Congress Avenue. Lots of shops and restaurants, then I noticed the State Capitol, so I made a direct line for that instead of walking along Congress. When returning to my vehicle, I noticed that for the amount of time I was parked, it was very expensive!

I have no idea what the buzz is about for this street. I thought it was going to be little shops that offered unique finds and artwork, local wares, etc….. instead it was just boring expensive stores with restaurants. The only place we stumbled upon that I enjoyed was the Driskell hotel ; loved the history , architecture and paintings. I hey even have a small cafe , but they do close at 2pm.
We also did find a few interesting murals/artwork as we meandered around . Obviously this is not the place for me, there are other places I would enjoy walking around much more.

Changed since our last visit in the past -- security fences/posts surround the Capitol. Due to COVID not as many folks walking around the area. Still lots of places to have lunch or dinner. Some historical places especially the Driskill Hotel which is ta op of the line hotel.

I have lived in Austin for many years. When I first moved here, Congress Avenue was all retail and basically closed up at 5 PM. Now there are a bunch of restaurants, coffee shops and bars. The street is lit up nicely and is a very inviting place to visit. There is ample parking on the street and on the west end side streets, along with a few public garages. Worth a visit!

Excellent trip made especially grand at The JW MARRIOTT. What a wonderful site to see the Congress Ave bats from the hotel room, have opportunities to dine at exceptional restaurants within and around the space. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our short business trip.

While we did walk this section of Congress Ave. this seems the best place to note that downtown Austin is disgusting. First, it is not very clean. Second, there is a strong smell of urine on nearly every corner. Third, there are homeless and or panhandlers everywhere. I have never been asked for money so frequently anywhere in the world. To be fair they were all polite about it but generally for a state Capitol Austin should clean up its downtown.

Great place to wander, shop, eat, drink , watch bats during their season of being there. Paid public parking lots. Friendly retailers and servers.

We parked in a lot near Congress hoping to enjoy the walk up to the Capital. We didn't enjoy it at all, and we are truly "city lovers". There is bank after bank...and a few coffee places. But what stuck out the most were all the panhandlers on Congress in this area. It made walking extremely unpleasant.

If you go for a walk on this part of Congress avenue during a weekday, there is not alot of tourist oriented items to see. The intersection at Congress/6th street is full of obnoxious homeless.
