One of my fav parts of Austin

Great place to visit while in Austin. Tons of great restaurants, and unique shopping. Parking can be a bit tricky depending on when you go, but definitely worth checking out.

This is a trendy street situated just West of downtown Austin. Cross the Colorado river bridge and you are in South Congress with all its quirky little shops selling everything from clothing to candy. You name it and it's there along with restaurants and a couple of retro-1950's hotels. In fact the whole couple of miles is retro 1950's. Prices... More

Absolutely love South Congress Avenue. It's a must go place in Austin! Great vintage shops and restaurants along with neat eclectic places. Great walk! Odd back in parking :) Fun afternoon! Can't wait to go back. We at at Hello Cupcake and had brunch at Magnolia Cafe South! Highly recommend! The smell of Home Slice makes me want to go... More

I really liked South Congress. It's full of quirky shops and interesting eateries. It's certainly part of the Keep Austin Weird ethic.

This part of town has lots of low costs restaurants but what it truly interesting are the shops. Some are very unusual places that sell everything from day of the dead masks, party costumes, vintage clothing, and animal skulls. You could spend all day on the strip. It is worth the visit.

This area is nice for quick walkaround. The colorfull façades and the eclectic collection of shops are nice for windowshopping. The Actual shopping didn't do much for us. Nice if you have the time but no must do by any means.

Congress Avenue, just south of downtown, across the river, is home to dozens of campy, vintage, groovy and eclectic shops. Several more traditional shops here, too: suits, boots, hats. (The hat store clerk offered us a shot of bourbon!) Numerous restaurants and cafes. Fantastic people watching! Parking can be a challenge - pay lots are about ten bucks. Strange parking... More

The back in diagonal parking is different, but easy with a small car. We walked many blocks to Torchy's Tacos, a unique taco shop popular with locals and visitors. The street is geared to students and young people. There were a few of us geezers walking the sidewalks and I wasn't feeling my usual urge to stop and shop (I... More

You could say this about many areas of town. SoCo seems to be the swanky, trendy area right now. The music and people watching on the weekends is the best! Food at various locations is also fab. Great walking trip from the Congress bridge if your there in the summer for the bat viewing!
