I visited Umlauf Sculpture Garden with my sister while in Austin. I suppose it's an okay retreat, but we just were not terribly impressed by it.

We traveled to Austin for the first time to attend a wedding at this magical place. It far exceeded our expectations. It is hidden away virtually in the middle of the bustling city but you feel like you are out in the countryside. On arrival, we toured the grounds and admired the outdoor sculpture garden while sipping champagne. The ceremony... More

This is a very serene and beautiful garden. It was a delight to see all the sculptures while strolling outside in perfect weather.

This is a must-see and you can spend as long or as little amount of time. I had never heard of Charles Umlauf until today. He was a German immigrant who came to the USA; based on his sculptures UT offered him a teaching position and here he stayed. This garden and museum is where he lived and sculpted. He,... More

This is a great place to spend an hour or so communing with nature and being inspired by art, right in the heart of Austin. One exhibit in the museum explains how bronze sculptures are made by the wax resist method, which I found interesting, and the gardens are wonderful, with water features and sculptures in different sizes. Flowers, sculpture, ponds not that well known but truly beautiful and peaceful. Not very big but worth exploring. Wonderful sculpture winding amongst flowers and pathways!

The garden is not huge but has trails that make it seem bigger. Trails are easy to navigate but some gravel. Visit the indoor museum first to understand the sculpture. Don't go on a hot day.

Charles Umlauf was a prominent Austin based sculptor and teacher. His former home is now a pleasant sculpture garden and exhibition space. This is a nice 90 minute culture stop in the center of the city. Not overwhelming, and no one will have the chance to get bored before the art lovers are done. Parking can be a challenge, but... With a student ID, it's only $1 to see the gardens and the museum. So you more than get your money's worth. The museum features a recreation of Umlauf's workplace. They moved his actual tools and workbenches down from his house on the hill (which they're looking to turn into a museum as well). It's a really cool and enjoyable... More

$5 to get in, per person. Staff were friendly. Parking very limited. I'd allow for 30 mins to view the garden and 30 mins for the museum (we only had a quick look at the museum). I think they also had a documentary showing. Statue garden was small, however, beautiful.
