Atlanta State Park is located on the south shore of Lake Wright Patman in the Northeast Corner of Texas. It is in the Piney Woods Region of Texas. The forest is a mixture of pine and hardwood trees, which include oak and sweet gum. The terrain is hilly, with bluffs along the lakeshore. There is an admission fee of $3... More

We visited this park for the first time in October 2016. The office staff was extremely helpful and placed us in a great spot for our 33' fifth wheel. Out campsite was very clean and well maintained. Some of the hiking trails were closed, but I was still able to walk to a location with an outstanding cliff top view... More

Atlanta State Park is a regular go-to place for myself and my group. There are good hiking trails for hiking and biking, great paddling and fishing here as well. No matter what problem I might run into, I am always met with help from either the front staff or Roger, park ranger there. He helped my group and I out... More

Upon arrival at Atlanta State Park we were greeted by a very friendly park ranger who was just heading out for her lunch break. I had asked if they offered a discount on the park entry fee for disabled veterans. The friendly ranger said they offered free entry to disabled veterans with a disability rating of 60% or greater with... More

Nice state park but could use some updating on the facilities. They were gas station clean. The lake is great for fishing although no sites have water access directly.

May I preface this by saying, I grew up camping and continued until one catostrophically rainy trip in '89 to Lake Casitas, Ventura County, California, when my kiddies were young. Needless to say, I have since been a hotel and historic B&B type of girl. In 1998, during Yummy Hubby's and my first non-professional conversation (lasting eight hours on the... More

This is a great park for a day hike, a weekend of camping, or a longer stay in an RV. If you're tent camping, I recommend staying up on the ridge. You have nice tree cover, and great views down to the lake. Make sure you hike the trail around the lake, then down by the creek. The lake trail... More

I visit the Atlanta State Park every month or two. I grew up in this area and it is just beautiful. If you are up for some fishing, camping, or just a day outside then Atlanta State Park is the place to go.

This park has numerous campsites, lots of hiking and exploring opportunities, boat ramps, fishing, whatever you might want. The park is not enormous, but it's plenty big and the numerous tree species and plant varieties can keep a botany buff happy. Birding is good here, especially during migration seasons as the lake makes a nice stop over point for pelicans... More
