Started our visit with Africa, followed the signs but ended up having to backtrack to get to the elephants. It was helpful to have guides at the major junctions but would also have been useful at any road split area to avoid confusion and having...More

It was the perfect late August day, with a high of 83 degrees and cloudy. We were there for hours and thoroughly enjoyed the zoo. Some of our party, as well as other guests we overheard, were very disappointed because the polar bear was nowhere...More

We took our son and grandson to the North Carolina zoo recently. We got there at the opening time of 9 am. Because it was a Saturday, we figured it would be crowded but we had the place to ourselves for the first couple of...More

We have been to zoos all over the world. This is the largest zoo that I am aware if and it is well maintained with an excellent collection. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We go frequently.

All the exhibits were clean, roomy and well maintained. Animals were very visible. I hate going to a zoo where a lot of the animals are hidden. Trails were beautiful. My favorite was the aviary, I could have spent the whole day just looking at...More

This is unlike any other zoo you've ever visited because it its physical area is so large. Animal habitats are located among the hills and valleys of the Uwharrie Mountains which also means you need to bring your walking shoes. It's sometimes a long walk...More

I love how this zoo has been carved right into the landscape. It's so natural of a space that there are signs warning of wild venomous snakes that also call zoo grounds home. But it's cool, I promise. Lots of space in exhibits and Kid...More

I did not check out the situation for wheelchair assessability, but I do know that there are free trams, buses and shuttles around the zoo, and to the parking lots. There is a hop on site near each entrance, and one more... More

I would suggest the Hampton Inn. There's another hotel right beside it also. These are the closest.

I stayed at the Hampton Asheboro with my grandkids. They loved the large indoor pool, and breakfast was great. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
