About
This former red-light area is now one of Kuala Lumpur’s top culinary destinations. The sidewalks are lined with seafood eateries, hawker stalls, and coffee shops serving some of Malaysia’s best hawker fare. You’ll find delicious street food like satay, BBQ chicken wings, stir-fried noodles, and also desserts. Wash it all down with some ice-cold beer or the locals’ favorite: sugarcane juice. This buzzing street draws budget travelers for its affordable prices and shutterbugs for its nostalgic vibes. Join a food tour of Kuala Lumpur, which will bring you to all the best food spots in Jalan Alor and the city. – Tripadvisor

- Jackie EAuckland, New Zealand96 contributionsEntertaining, good foodLots of fun. Many restaurants to choose from - all seem similar. We avoided the ones with too many tourists and looked for locals eating. Food was good, beers were in big bottles - not chilled so arrived in a big bucket of ice. Good for people watching.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 October 2023
- LMack2697 contributionsOutdoor dining experience in the cityJalan Alor is an outdoor food market stall area with a variety of restaurants selling Malaysian, Thai, Indian, Chinese, fresh fruit, nuts, fruit drinks, soft drinks, beer and wine. Was extremely busy when we attended and not good if you don’t like crowds. Food was ok mainly stir fried dishes, fresh seafood or meats/chicken grilled over coals. Can get Smokey depending on where you sit.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 November 2023
- eva zSingapore, Singapore142 contributionsNo much special thing there, but must try the 小萌肉饼 Chinese Beef Roti.A short street with local/Chinese restaurants, fruits/juice store. Had a dinner at 黄亚华小食店,food tastes good but no customer service. Afyer dinner, ate durian at the alley opposite 黄亚华,that durian store clean and cosy. Can see most customers on the streets are tourists 😁 There's a Chinese Beef Roti at the Connor of the street, long queue from morning until night. We've queue for more than half an hour for 2 beef roti, crispy on the outside skin and tender inside and the beef filling very juicy. The rest every food you can skip but the beef roti must try.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2023
- mumunana87Petaling Jaya, Malaysia2 contributionsI’m Malaysian, and I won’t come here if I were you. This place has been promoted as a must-visit hawker street for tourists. Unfortunately, the food sold here do not represent Malaysian food. When you come here, you’re going to see restaurants serving Thai food (which you can get in Bangkok), Chinese food (which you can get from China, Hong Kong or Taiwan), or Korean food (which you will get from, yes, South Korea). Just look at the red tanglung hanging, you’d think you’re in China right? So where can you get true, authentic Malaysian food? Go to Kampung Baru. It’s a modern-day village selling authentic Malaysian food. Find these food to try: Nasi Lemak, Rendang, Laksa, Bihun Sup, Asam Pedas, Satay with Kuah Kacang, Lontong, Mee Rebus, Mee Kari, Mee Goreng Mamak, Roti Canai, Nasi Ayam, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Koey Teow, Wantan Mee, Pan Mee, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang. However, if you see Nasi Geprek, Ayam Penyet, Bakso, Soto - these are all Indonesian food. Better go next door (Indonesia) and try the real ones for these. Enjoy!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 December 2023
- Alan K13 contributionsGo at least once.Must see experience in Bukit Bintang area. Atmosphere at night especially after 8-9pm is crowded and busy. Lots of tourists and few locals, and yes expensive for Malaysia but for convenience and access it is awesome at least once if in area. For durian lovers have a number of stalls, and for convenience and high exchange rate it is very good. If you can get to SS2 or other suburban durian markets this will be cheaper but for holiday access and if not on a tight budget, go for it!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 January 2024

The street comes alive after dark, offering an array of seafood and other dining options. Take your pick from the numerous restaurants offering seating on the street, or just browse the many market stalls. A good cheap dining alternative to the many restaurants and bars on offer. We enjoyed ourselves so much the first night we came back the next night also.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 January 2024

1a not of food options, diferent specialities , also food and snacks but not the kind of place where we like to be, big crowd and sellers disturbing , many restaurants are showing menus without prices.
If you want somewhere quiet that serves delicious food, go a bit further and you'll find smaller restaurant where locals eat and where food is really tasty for cheap prices. (Roy bonzer corner for example)

Big disappointment!! It’s a tourist trap. Every 2 seconds somebody throws a food menu literally in your face. We tried different stalls and 80% of the food tastes boring or just bad. Restaurants try to attract guests mainly with cheap beer prices... We haven’t seen many locals there. Disabled children in wheelchairs singing to loud music in the street. Prices are higher then at the food courts in the big malls. I could get on and on... only two dishes we liked: the sweat potato chips and the Putu desert (sticky coconut rice rolls) - both small stalls are located in the middle of the street.
We went to the street because of the waving reviews of many travel bloggers - we are kind of shocked, that they our experience was so different... Our recommendation: If you are in the area, go there for a desert and take a walk around, but don’t eat here for dinner!

It’s bustling with people looking for foods, the whole street all are restaurants serving seafood and others choices.
Few stalls selling fruits/squids/corn/ mata kuching drinks and others can be found. Majority are seafood restaurants serving quite the same type of cooking with about the same price within them.

Having read the reviews of this street we were expecting it to be more chaotic and expensive than it actually was . We were not pestered excessively and we had very good meals twice in different restaurants for a reasonable cost .
Good lively atmosphere and well worth a visit .

This is a TERRIFIC restaurant! My husband and I were in Kuala Lumpur the week the WHO declared Covid-19 a pandemic. We explained our health concerns in terms of eating in a restaurant to Lilian, the co-owner of Restoran Lim Kee. She was knowledgable, professional, and quickly took charge. She advised us to only order dishes from her menu that came directly from the stove to our table. She also instructed us to stay away from all the shellfish dishes and fresh fruit drinks. Instead, she recommended fresh fish and drinks sealed in cans that could be disinfected. The food was WONDERFUL and we had zero health issue. It was so good that we actually went back to Lilian's place for dinner the next night as well before leaving Kuala Lumpur.

No matter where you go travel, every street food market/hawkers is the place to go. Jalan Alor food market is the best. Once the sun goes down, every restaurant/hawker is out. Not much desserts but more Street food.
It's cheap to get a meal at any price. I would say you can get 4-5 plates for $15(60RM). Only went to 5 spots, so many and one just wasnt good(I'll post the one). Just slow service, food wasnt good compare to the other 4 I went.
I ate at places that had alot of people, which is the mid point of the street. One towards the end has good. Not saying that the ones where not much are there aren't good. It's a walk, and to eat and chill and people watch is good.
Stalls st the end had good lamb bbq, milk tea, fruits, small eats. I had pandan chicken, wow. Rice is rice, still amazing, to prawns, shrimp, satay, wings, salmon, crab, noodles, man you can get it all and it was all good. For the price you can't beat.
I wish the U.S. had spots like this where you can pay 15$ for what you get. Every picture is you see is the full meal, +/- a few extra satay sticks and chicken wings.
Its get hella crowded so if it's your first time there and your hungry. I suggest you hit a few lil hawkers, buy small snack and drink. Walk a bit and then pick a place mid point. Enjoy the food, watch people and walk the rest, buy fruits, milk tea drinks, shakes, alil snacks and end the night.
I thing I wish I did was just order like 8 plates and spend the $30 on myself to try everything. Enjoy the (H)eat...

The food here is quite diverse, the restaurant staff invite guests quite enthusiastically.
But the food here is extremely expensive (I bought 5 grilled skewers for RM 44 and a smoothie for RM 10) but they taste extremely bad while this is just a food street. Meanwhile, I went to eat at the Food Court at Suria KLCC Mall and the price was much cheaper and more delicious (A bowl of noodles was only RM 13 and a glass of milk tea was only RM 8.9). Besides, this street is too crowded, the hygiene on this street is quite bad, they are quite dirty and and can be affected by the weather (very inconvenient if it rains). If you stay at Suria KLCC, it will be very clean, there will be regular cleaning staff and you can watch the Petronas tower or the colorful water music at the lake.
Therefore, I recommend going to Food Court in Mall instead of Jalan Alor Food Street

Famous nighttime Street food Jalan Alor is a bit overrated and much more expensive- although it looks cheap to tourists from developed countries. I would recommend visiting Chinatown during the daytime.
Most famous and biggest place sells excellent chicken wings and good seafood. Famous durian is also more expensive at night.

Street with restaurants - street fast food. Nothing special in taste - You can eat the same in other places. More expensive, crowdy place specially in the evening. Hard to have good comfortable place to eat, generally dirty.

Here is the local famous dinner street at the KL city, if you haven’t come here yet then u actually consider never been KL. therefore you must come here to visit and feel the environment.
Food is nothing special and beware the price as sometime the price is slightly higher compare other place in KL.
Try the local fruit here as there are few stall
Selling it.
Location just next to bukit bintang MRT station.
Don’t come at the morning time as it only open at the night

What would be the best thing or place to eat here if I have a very severe nut allergy?
Written 18 July 2019
Best to stick to seafood. You can also ask at restaurants and emphasise your allergy. Stay away from satay especially the sauce which is peanut based. Sometimes the meat marinade could also be contaminated with peanut.

I would suggest to take the monorail at Imbi, the traffic is hectic that time of night and a 5 minute trip can take up to 40 min. Taxi's would take a long time.

Do they have vegetarian restaurants there?
Written 20 June 2018
Jalan Alor is a street full of little restaurants with wide variety of food selection. I am pretty sure you get a vegetarian dish somewhere. But I don't think there is one particular restaurant that is 100% vegetarian. Hope you enjoy your stay there. Good luck!

Tactically it is available 24/7 from breakfast till supper. But usually the crowd will be concentrate during evening to late night and that is also the most food choice available.
