- 優大 大19 contributionsA healing spaceIt's a place where you can see sea animals that you want to go no matter how old you are and you can be healed and study. It's a place where you can enjoy even if you go with your lover, family, etc. There are a lot of souvenirs, so you can buy them and go home.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 October 2023
- RTSingapore, Singapore72 contributionsDecent but tank sizes and design are alarmingNice place to chill if you are going with your partner. There were couples, families, kids, lots of different people here. I wont recommend spending more than 2 hours here though. It is a little alarming how small some of the enclosures are, given how big the complex looks externally. I was hoping that there will be more ringed seal exhibits, and shows where we can watch feeding of the ringed seals. I must admit, I have been to better aquariums. There is a nice cafe in the aquarium with reasonable prices, and very nice matcha ice cream.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 November 2023
- Alan KSanta Clara, California44 contributionsIt's a decent aquariumBeing in California and having been to Monterey Bay, it's hard for this aquarium to measure up. It is much less crowded and cheaper though. It has a variety of species to see and kids seemed to love it. I went just after 5 pm, they do some sort of night environment where they play music and light it differently than the day I hear. Ticket window person spoke English and asks what country you're from. Near the giant ferris wheel too.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 December 2023
- Kristen CSan Diego, California230 contributionsWhales sharks and lots moreYou might not think of going to an aquarium during your trip to Japan but you can see whale sharks here and it was a fun afternoon with a bit less crowd. 2 hrs is good. There is a tour of the harbor option along with your aquarium ticket and the boat was big. We did not have time for that but wish we did. Tons of shopping a huge food court next door.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2024
- estherapriliasJakarta, Indonesia13 contributionsPleasant trip at the aquarium and the surroundingsWe visited Osaka Aquarium for holiday and the kids loved it. Unfortunately the great barrier reef was still under construction. If you want to go, you should check whether it is already finished. However, the rest of the experience was great. They had a wide variety of animals. The seals were especially entertaining, they were very curious and might get close to the glass to observe you before floating away again, the kids loved them. The white side dolphins were also cute. The highlight would be the whale sharks, they just reminded me of destiny from Finding Dory, and very lovely. Each station would have a stamping station for the kids, you can get it from the staff at the beginning of the journey. Once you're out they had a mini souvenir shop that was very crowded, don't spend too much time there, because they have a bigger souvenir shop downstairs as you exit. They have a small snack stall opposite starbucks near the exit that sell very good pretzel dogs, and a cute bento with a whale shark shape. Next door there's a plaza with many great shops, restaurants and a food court. Also legoland inside. Overall it was a pleasant trip.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 January 2024
- Erico2709Singapore, Singapore2,497 contributionsGood crowd control but still crowdedThe design of the aquarium is quite clever. It is in a rectangular spiral so you start from the top and start to see the underwater animals as you make your way down. I would say the main draw are the whale sharks but other than that, the rest of the marine animals are so-so. I would say no more than 2 hrs will be sufficient. I will advise to book in advance we they enter you by timing. If you just show up, likely you can only get entry tickets to enter ~ 1 hr later.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 February 2024
- John and Deb KKarratha, Australia824 contributionsGreat for the ChildrenIt was a rainy day so we took off to the Aquarium, not something we would normally indulge in as we are from Australia, divers and have done free diving with Whale Sharks and great Whites. But the sea is in our blood. The Aquarium is really well set out and great for children and people that have no experience with creatures from the sea. The two whale sharks are juveniles and I hope that they have plans in place as they grow as it is still a small place for them to live. We are not a fan of captive animals but in today's world sometimes that assists with a creatures survival. The Jelly fish display was some what disappointing if you have been to the display at Hong Kongs you will understand.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2024

- jabitzMelbourne, Australia256 contributionsRelaxing time watching the sea lifeWe had a day trip from Kyoto to Osaka and one place we wanted to visit was the aquarium to see the whale sharks. We spent a couple of hours wandering through the aquarium at times sitting and enjoying watching the fish and rays and sharks swim around the tank. While it was good to see the whale sharks up close it must be said that is is sad to see them in such a small tank compared to the oceans they would normally live in. Like a zoo it gives people an opportunity to see animals that they wouldn't normally get to see in the wild.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 May 2024

Incredibly crowded, upsetting and badly managed. We went on a weekday after reading some of these reviews, and still had to line up for over 30 minutes to get in, after buying tickets.
This seemed to be the only place in Japan where children were allowed to run wild. They screamed, ran all around and rapped on the glass, and we literally tripped over them and their strollers in the dark corridors. Far too many noisy people in a small space to enjoy it (and we visited the day after Universal Studios, which had many, many more people and children).
Also, I've been to a few aquariums, and this was the least informative. Even in Japanese they only had vague information about each species, and no information about the particular work they do with their animals. This was particularly worrying as they have such huge and impressive animals, and we would have liked to have been assured that they were taking care of them. As it was, it seemed like merely a big show where the animals' needs are secondary to the money and spectacle.
Many enclosures looked too small for the animals, particularly the seals and penguins, and no one intervened in the touching area when children were rough with the fish and rays.
If you really want to see the big whale sharks, watching a video of them will be just as awesome, cheaper, probably more informative and definitely more enjoyable.

It will look at first glance like an oddly shaped red and blue building but it is actually the Osaka Kaiyukan which contains within it an aquarium. It is a very popular tourist destination and on the day we visited, we arrived during midday without having booked a ticket only to be told that we had to wait until 4 PM before there is space for us to go into the Kaiyukan. There is thankfully the Tempozan shopping center nearby to kill sometime.
Entering the Kaiyukan, the visitor is first directed to the topmost floor and they slowly travel downwards as they explore the contents of the aquarium. Various marine wildlife are on display here but the highlight and the "Stars" of the aquarium is the giant aquarium in the middle of the Kaiyukan containing two giant whale sharks. I daresay that the dark settings add to the atmosphere of looking at these animals in the aquarium.
It can get very crowded during the holiday period with lots of kids running around and people bustling through but overall the locals are very orderly. If anything it's the tourists that are disorderly who would not hesitate to elbow people out of the way or use their kids as shields to push in ahead to people.
It does take quite a while to go around Kaiyukan and take in the view of the animals. Having gotten in at 4 PM and still having other things to do in the itinerary, we decided to travel around Kaiyukan as quickly as possible and it still took us 2 hours. It would not be surprising at all that it would take people a whole day to complete their visit if they had gone with a more leisurely place. There is a cafe for visitors to grab a rest and some snacks while they are at it with views of Osaka Bay.
At the end of Kaiyukan there are two souvenir shops. The first one is the smaller souvenir shop, the second one is the larger one and on the same level at Starbucks. Once the sun has gone down there are light features that you can take pictures next to.
I think Kaiyukan is well worth the visit when one is visiting Osaka. It's my second visit to the place and it is still a great place. My first visit made such an impression on me that other aquariums has never been as impressive as the visit here. The only difference with my first visit is that the "Hands on" section where you can touch some of the animals has been removed.

We wanted to visit the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan because it was highly rated on a number of websites we visited and because it boasted whale sharks. One might argue the ethics of keeping such a majestic creature in a tank, but that's one for another day.
It was easy to get to but a little pricey as aquariums go. There is an amazing ferris wheel and shopping centre right next door which made the visit a little more worthwhile. Another drawcard was that the aquarium was open until 8pm so we were able to squeeze it in after a day trip to Nara. Even at that time of day it was busy and we still had to queue to get in.
The exhibits were well laid out and interesting but dated. The main tank, which you could see from 4 different levels of the aquarium was stocked with some very exciting fish/ sea creatures, but it didn't seem very well looked after as we spotted a beautiful Giant Trevally with a humongous tumour looking thing hanging off its side. The whale sharks were beautiful but were only able to swim round and round the tank given it's breadth/ width.
There was a pretty cool touch pool and some interesting sea worms/fishes but on the whole, this was a aquarium in need for an upgrade and development.
Go if you have a mad aquarium interest, otherwise, save your dollars.

We decided to do the night show and see the fish and marine creatures under night time lighting. It was good generally speaking. There is a really nifty entrance tunnel where you get to walk under fish swimming around (we even saw a diver in the tank doing something we couldn't figure out).
You take a long escalator to the top of what turns out to be a huge circular tank with many different kinds of rays, fish, sharks etc (all stuff that swims). As you walk down the sloping circular ramp around the outside you get to see glimpses of sea life at different levels. On the outside of the ring there are smaller tanks or exhibits showing various other kinds of marine and mammal life. The small squids swimming in formation were particularly interesting - especially since I was imagining them on my plate! Toward the bottom you encounter the sea life in lower regions and a tank with the largest crabs in the world (no REALLY - these things are HUGE).
At the end there is a nice area with some food/ice cream/souvenirs/bathrooms.
There is also a large Ferris wheel on the grounds if that is your kind of thing.
Keep in mind that if you are taking the train, it can still be a little bit of a hike to the actual aquarium, so be prepared and if you go to the night show, make sure you know when the trains are running.

Really nice aquarium , as they have made a full roadmap to follow through .
But here are some hints:
1/ if you take a ticket in advance you may save 20 mn queue
2/ younwill queue to buy tickets then queue again to enter the park..
We waited on a Sunday morning 45 mn.
Then, inside the aquarium , you may find a real crowd and it s quite unpleasant to walk like you are in the subway on peak hours, trying to come close to the windows..
But yet , it was beautiful to see.

Apart from the long wait & 45-minute exposure to the cold January Osaka weather while queueing, it was a relatively good experience.
The layout is different from the other Aquariums I've been to (Sentosa, Vancouver, Dubai, HK, Philippines) as you are made to walk your way down (or up) to see the sea creatures, which were presented by continents/regions.
We also got to ride one of the world's largest ferris wheel just beside the aquarium
We went there for the kids, but my wife & I enjoyed it as much as they did.

There are animals in this aquarium that shouldn’t be there I.e dolphins, sea lions, whale sharks and penguins. These animals need large spaces to roam and fresh food to eat. They are in confined spaces eating dead fish. I’m ashamed in myself that I went and recommend you don’t go if you really care about animal welfare.
There are a few tiny signs dedicated to the impacts of plastic waste but they really don’t do enough (especially in a country that hands out plastic everywhere you look -
Towel wipes, chopsticks, cutlery, bags etc).
I came away more sure about being anti these sorts of establishments and more determined to reduce my waste.

We have been to a number of aquariums in the past and this has got to be one of better ones I’ve been to. There are a lot of marine species on display and they show things well across the worlds waters.
Pricing is about 2300Yen which is a bit above average, but certainly worthwhile.
The only thing preventing me from giving full marks is how busy this place gets. Super crowded with tourists and if you get in at the peak time it makes it hard to navigate and see anything.

If you want to experience various sea creatures when you travel to Osaka, I recommend you to go there at least once. Especially, the order of viewing the aquarium was very attractive. You can see creatures that live at a certain depth in the form of viewing that gradually goes down. But there is also a problem. Some intelligent creatures, such as penguins, dolphins, seals, and whale sharks, are huddling in narrow tanks that do not fit their size. It can be fun for some, but unpleasant for others, for dolphins to do a show at the behest of a trainer in a tank. In fact, many countries have banned the use or confinement of intelligent animals in shows. If the purpose of visiting here is to educate children about sea life, I recommend not to go. They can see the creatures in the aquarium, feel the sea, and see them wonderfully, but it can naturally instill in children the idea that animals are a human's toys, which are animals can be consumed.

Hi, other than the Webket page, is there any other websites where I can purchase the tickets?
I can't seem to purchase, as it keeps telling me that my Credit Card cannot be handled. I've tried few other CC, and it's all unable to go through.
I'm heading over the week after the Golden Week, in which I'm afraid tickets will run out early. I'm trying to get my tickets early to avoid disappointment.
Thanks!
