Top ways to experience Fushimi Otesuji Shotengai and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was only per chance that we ended up here on our way back from the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum. This is a local covered shopping street to the east of Kyoto. The shops mostly provide the locals with there day to day requirements so is a refreshing place to wander, compared to the more touristy parts of Kyoto. Being a sake brewing area a lot of the shops sell sake. But you can find a few pottery and souvenir shops here also, that seem to cater more to the local Japanese visitors, but mostly it is a local shopping arcade. I brought a timber sake cup from a shop near here that seemed like it has been trading for hundreds of years. We also had a street vendor lunch here of takoyaki, and even that is worth the effort to find this hidden gem.
