Club Metro
About
The oldest night club in Japan since 1990, Metro is becoming the source of cultural trends with a strong focus on quality of music, art, etc. Many local artists started out at Metro and advanced overseas like Mondo Grosso, FPM, to name a few. In addition we have been inviting a variety of artists from across the globe monthly like, Aphex Twin, Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Daft Pank, Arto Lindsay, James Blake, Africa Bambaataa, etc, any more. In the early evenings Metro sometimes host a culture school “Metro College” that picks up a variety of themes such as; minimal arts, movies, and talk shows . We also help to showcase Kyoto's culture through partnership with Kyoto City on events like the International Art Festival. Another AWESOME fact, we were ranked 14th on the list of “the weirdest places."

Neighbourhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In the middle of Kyoto we found this very exciting place. There was good music, good drinks (one it's free if you're a foreign person!) If you're near to Gion, I suggest you to go there

Club Metro is located, as its name suggests, one level up from the Marutamachi metro station in the heart of Kyoto along the Kamo river.
It welcomes live numbers, DJs and all night events where one can meet the "in" crowd of Kyoto.
Wether I go for a scheduled event of just happen to drop by, the music is always top notch, the atmosphere very friendly and the crowd really "in.
No need to dress up if you don't want to.
I always had a great experience and met friends and new faces.
I highly recommend it.

I was staying for three months in Kyoto and went to Metro on several occasions. They have a super varied lineup, excellent sound and good vibes all over. It is a miniature version of a club in Tel Aviv minus the drugs.

Went to see the drag show which was fun! There were tons of people and the show started at midnight. Door opened at 22:00.

The music before was awful though, and the music after. They still smoke inside if you aren’t into that second hand smoke affect.

Pros: This place really does have good music.

Cons: It's really dark, small, cramped (almost no room to dance or move), and smokey.

It's a good place if you're really particular about music, or if you're into the underground music scene. However, it's bad if you're looking for a good place to dance and party. The entrance fee is also kind of expensive ($15-$20).

A dingy small underground bar, has a very rough feel to it but the people are friendly and give any night that they have drag queen a miss as I assume that's the gay night unless you're into that but it's pretty mellow/straight for a guy bar it's always like that... Worth a visit if only once, if the music was better would probably go again but on a different night.

Come and support these guys on a Tuesday, great tracks. It's located under the metro so not easy find relying only on Googlemaps. Freindly door and bar staff and 2 drinks included in the cover charge.
