A little place on a side street. Call ahead to sign up for a class in english. We had fun making our shibori wrapping clothes. There are other options as well. The family have been making cloth, clothing and kimono for many years. The museum upstairs (not wheelchair accessible). Is beautiful. Highly recommend.

The experience was really enjoyable making a shibori. The staff are lovely and while they dried and pressed our items , we saw a film on the very skilled art and how it is used and dyed. We were then shown an exhibition of art by a famous artist who has made 55 pictures of various places from Tokyo to Kyoto. We looked around their show and bought a beautiful Haori. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to meet them, would thoroughly recommend this.

Really fun way to make a unique momento of Kyoto. The room of finished pieces was lovely, and I picked up a couple of unique souvenirs (bag and jacket) which were very reasonably priced. Probably of more interest to women than men.

Such a cool museum. It's not large, but it will teach you a lot about shibori. We were led on a tour by one of the shibori artists, who gave us all the information we could have wanted and even demonstrated some of the techniques. There is lots to see, and many beautiful textiles to purchase and take home with you.

Though the museum is close to the subway, I was running late, so I took a taxi there & the driver said it was muzukashii (difficult) to find. It was well worth finding—very kind & talented artisans work there (+ speak excellent English). They are very patient & make you feel like a star! I took two classes to make a cotton furoshiki + silk scarf. While waiting for my “art” to dry, I got a personal museum tour by the owner’s son. Great info + spectacular art--I would definitely return to take another class again!
