The cages are small and poor animals are all depressed. It is very easy to see that animals are not happy there. They put a tiger inside 10m2 cage. It is very cruel. I hope they can close down this place asap.

I'm not a big zoo person but given the Kyoto Zoo was a 10 minute walk form the Nanzen-ji Temple we decided to visit. As zoos go this one is quite small in size, however, being so it is easy to spend 1 hour, or...More

We love animals and were pleasantly surprised to get so close to them. Saw some animals that I had never seen in person including "Rafiki" from the Lion King. Well organized and easy to navigate from one area to another.

This zoo was ok. I didn't know what to expect but it was very clean and very well laid out. You were able to see the animals with ease in their exhibits and it wasn't too crowded. Great place to take the kids.

This is a great place for young children. The zoo is quite small, so you can finish the tour before they get too tired or bored. We can see the animals up close and there is a great variety of animals. There is a small...More

Zoo is very attractive with lovely gardens and a good variety of animals. The kids loved it particularly the monkey exhibits. I had to try to ignore the extremely small enclosures for the animals - this is how they did zoos 100 years ago!

My Husband and I took our children (2 and a half and eight months) to visit the Zoo whilst staying in Kyoto. The park is easily accessible by train (15 minute walk from station) or bus (direct to door). It was a fine day and...More

When we read the reviews on this zoo we almost didn't bother to visit. But I am glad we did. I think there have been renovations done since many of the reviews as a lot of the zoo looked new, modern and relatively spacious. There...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
