Hate to leave outright negative reviews, but really disappointed with this show. Would have been more palatable if perhaps at the 10USD mark, but for over 30USD it was quite remarkable how little entertainment there actually was. You get a brief insight to some Japanese...More

This is a tourist show of several tradtional japaneses customs and theatre. It's in japanese, so I recommend to read the details of the program in English, just before the show, which will be very helpful to understand what is going on.

Pressed for time due to a packed conference shedule so I was glad I made the effort to find this venue. I arrived 18.20 & stayed in the que to get a ticket for the 19.00 show. Varied and worth it if you can find...More

It is so difficult to see a real Geisha that it was really special to see this performance. Only goes for 15 minutes but it is enough to see the grace, beauty and the precision they must have in their dancing.

A rich, interesting, and insightful experience. We were introduced to Japanese flower arrangement, the tea ceremony, traditional dance, and comedy. The only setback was the queue! In fact, we went for the 6 pm show to be told that a tour group (American) had booked...More

Such a waste of time and money this '"performance" !! Unfortunately they must make a killing with what they charge and being booked out most nights. Save your money and see something else, I wouldnt rate this anymore than a 1/10.

They have approx. 1hr program that shows tea ceremony, flower arranging, maiko dance, puppet show and a comedy. It is more than 3000¥ for adults 23 and up. It is a bit expensive but if you want to know more about the culture of Japan,...More

I am a Culture Explorer so was looking forward to learning more about Japanese culture and tradition at Gion Corner. I'm rating this experience 3/5 as the ticketing system was disappointing. I arrived at 5.15 (15 minutes before the ticket line opened) to be told...More

Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko"
in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and
entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners,
Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with
gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion

Is there a performance at Gion Corner on 9 March 2017? I visited Gion Corner website and it says "The Yasaka Hall will be closed for refurbishment work from March 1 to 16, 2017." Do they stop holding the performance or just move the venue?

They move them, go to the hall and you will find ladies selling tickets and they will tell you where the venue is. It is across the street and down a sidestreet.

Do you need to buy tickets ahead of time? If so, where? If not, how much in advance do you need to show up?

Yes, you can buy tickets in advance. Perhaps not directly from the venue but we bought 3 tickets in advance (for the same price as on the door) from an external website. You still need to join the line when entering, so if... More

I cannot remember exactly in Yen but it was very reasonable. Maybe 30-35 AUD? I do not like paying for big concerts so I would recommend the experience.
