This may be a first for me- a 5 star review for a restaurant where we didn't like the food, and 5 stars for a foreign attraction that only Westerners frequent. Well make that a second- because Gion Hatanaka is the Kyoto version of the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo. At both places you go for the experience- and you go... More

Dinner and performance by Maiko and Geiko. You have an opportunity to meet and speak with them after dinner you play drinking games and take photos with them. This is a must do in Kyoto.

After few days in Japan, you would expect something more at that price... Instead, the food was nothing extraordinary. The geisha show was interesting during the first part (20 min max) - then they started playing games - but in my opinion it doesn't justify the price. At the end of the dinner I asked for more ice cream and... More

For me, it was a once-in-a-life real experience, in a traditional nice place (the Gion Hatanaka Ryokan, a traditional japanese Inn). The kyoto Kaiseki Dinner, a Kyoto style sushi dinner, was beautifuly presented in red boxes, and with a fresh and delicious taste for Sushi lovers. The drinking games were funny ! Even if the dinner was especially for tourists,... More

This is billed as a Maiko evening which is a joke because the whole thing was 1 1/2 and the Maiko only performed two short versions of songs. I knew it was going to be authentic but I had no idea just what a scam it was. When you realize there is man hosting it and directing everything and that... More

Great gourmet food, absolutely charming maiko/geiko-performance and games, a fun and enchanting evening. Though expensive - it was worth it.

The four of us have attended the Maiko Dinner Show at Gion Hatanaka on 22 April 2016. Considering the excellent reviews and the price we paid the experience was truly disappointing. First, it was very crowded and poorly conducted. We hardly had an opportunity to convert with the Maiko and the moderator was very bad. Second, the food was hardly... More

Our family recently stayed at this lovely ryokan in Kyoto and were blown away by the hospitality, service and generosity of the people there. The location is ideal, the rooms and facility were immaculate, the food was incredible, but mostly it was the people that made it unforgettable. We will cherish our time there, and our daughters were moved by... More

This is very costly but after doing it I can't recommend it enough. The cost includes all drink and food as well as the show so it's not as steep if you plan to try lots of different drinks. Meeting the maiko was amazing as we were able to ask questions as well as watch a performance and get involved... More

It's an expensive night out (19,000 yen per person), but I really think it was worth it! The fee covers your food and all your drinks, as well as the actual maiko performance. It was so interesting learning about their lives and the lengths they go to every day for their art. they perform some dances, and teach you a... More
