Ohara is an area in the North Eastern suburbs of Kyoto. There are frequent bus services from Kyoto station, Shijo shopping area, and Demachiyanagi Keifuku/Keihin terminal. Actually it takes less than one hour from Demachiyanagi, but Ohara is a pastoral village as if it were not the part of Kyoto. You can rent a bicycle or just take a walk. Tukemono, salted vegetables, is a specialty of this area.

We stayed as a family of four for one night and had an amazing time - the onsen was just perfect, the room comfy and well set out, the staff very helpful, our children (6 and 8) were welcomed and had a great time. The dinner and breakfast were great - definitely order the dinner/brekky option! A lovely place to experience a quieter side of Japan. Lovely gardens.

Went for lunch. Small restaurant that served very good miso hotpot. The pot was filled with lots of vegetables and chicken pieces at the bottom. The vegetables were fresh and tasty, chicken was tender.

We stayed for one day. One of the staff can speak very good English, this lessen our problem in communication.

Location is about 20min walk from the bus station. However it is easy to find.

Room is just beside the jungle's black lacquer trees. However it is very safe. We have our first experience in the onsen. Nothing to be shy actually, all the onsen users are very polite and kind. We have a very good sleep after the onsen.

We have steam boat for dinner. The place we ate our dinner are all very traditional. Food are delicious. We are also provided with traditional breakfast.

My wife and I wanted to stay in a traditional Japanese house with hot spring so we checked and found this place. It is managed by a young couple it seems. When we reached the ohara bus terminal. We called the place and they sent a vehicle to pick us up. The place is quite old and rustic but that is what we were looking for. They have both a indoor and outdoor hot spring. The Miso pot for dinner is quite good. There is a nearby temple which is 1500 years old.
If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, then maybe this place is not for you. You must want to buy the miso which they sell around the area.
