It particularly worthy of visit in the late fall during foliage. There are a lot of steps & stairs just to get the temple. There are 3 main temples for a good day trips to Takao, & the buses by JR are covered if you have JR PASS, otherwise around 800 yen for r/t. IMO, visit this one if you... More

It is definitely worth climbing. Suddenly, a big gate and temple appears at the top of mountain and huge. Also, this is a famous place of autumn colors. It locates outside of Kyoto and takes an hour bus trip from the Kyoto station. It is not recommended for the time compressed travelers but highly recommended for the frequent visitors, particularly... More

If you are looking for a good day or half day escape from Kyoto, by all means visit Takao and Jingo-ji. Less than an hour's bus ride from Kyoto, Takao will give you a lovely mountain and forest experience. Jingo-ji is probably the most interesting temple in the area. The temple complex offers great examples of temple architecture, impressively massive... More

Some amazing autumn colours if you come at the right time of the year. A temple full of history and is very quiet and tranquil, founded in the 9th century. If you are in Kyoto in autumn, Jingoji can well be worth a visit to experience true Japan.

This is a great attraction to visit. It's quiet and very serene. The temple was perched on the top of a big hill and required us to slowing walk all the way up. It took us a goodly hour to slowly hike our way up there. The view was pretty good though. And it was quiet as it was off... More

It's a 350 steps hike to get up to the temple, but it was a worth it! The leaves had started to change it's colors and it was just beautiful.

バス1日券の区間からはずれるものの、ぜひ訪れてほしいお寺。あの有名な源頼朝像や薬師如来像(国宝)は歴史通には外せないはずだ。 Although departing from the 1-day bus ticket section, by all means, I want to visit this temple. The famous Minamoto Yoritomo picture and Yakushi-nyoraizo (national treasure) are indispensable for history lovers.

Because this temple is a bit out of the way and has a number of stairs, it isn't hard to enjoy a peaceful time at this temple away from the crowds at other temples. We went late October before many leaves in Kyoto changed colors - except for the ones at Jingo-ji. The views were worth every step. Throwing the... More
