The forest was smaller than I thought and very, very crowded. It must be a lot nicer in the early morning when it is quiet, but unfortunately we went in the afternoon when it was hard to navigate due to the crowds. It is quite...More

The bamboo forest is notably famous (and crowded as all get go), it nonetheless a must see. Equally wonderful though is a wander down the river and across the bridge. An aspect of Kyoto that should not be missed.

Location easily accessible from JR station by walking. Sagano Bamboo Forest was good for walking when the place was not crowded. So wake up early and arrive to site early in the morning.

Even though there a lot of people who walk this path, it is fabulous. The bamboo are really tall, and larger in diameter than typical bamboo. And, the walk is awe inspiring.

Yes there were a lot of people there...but it was still gorgeous...lovely walk and lots to see...so happy we went...a real feel of the area and Kyoto's beauty....easy train ride out and fun walk through the forest and surrounding area.

It was not as big as I expected, and very crowded, but still something I am glad we saw. Defintely a unique sight.

Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved

riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The
