Neighbourhood: Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.

I was impressed by the samurai and ninja museum. Inside there are a good amount of authentic, good-looking samurai costumes and katanas. I did the tour and learned a lot about the samurai and ninjas. The talks were very interesting, there is a lot of information which was well told. The staff are very friendly and professional, and the way they told their stories very entertaining. I would recommend it.

Besides, dressing up as a samurai and throwing stars is certainly fun and makes for nice pictures.

We visited this place which pretended to be a museum located in a busy shopping mall on the 4th Floor. In fact it was just a floor of a building separated by curtains housing a set of posters with pictures of samurai and ninjas with information which I later found to be incorrect having done some research and after visiting Nijo castle. The 3300 YEN was a rip - off charged by some savvy operators exploiting tourists with the promise of an unforgettable experience. Well the experience was horrible because there were about 30 people crammed into a tiny space and insufficient time to read or absorb what the person Nobu was trying to present. In fact he told the crowd to not ask questions till after the show and even then could not answer the questions due to a time restraint. They misrepresent or falsely advertise this as a museum and overcharge tourists as most of the other museums only charge 1200 - 1600 Yen for historical and real artefacts with solid historical information. The star throwing competition was a farce as you get to aim plastic bits at a polystyrene wall and the winner gets to keep the plastic star. They even have the audacity to advocate that this activity is wrought with danger like back in the ninja period and that safety must be strictly observed. It was a very disappointing outing and I recommend visiting Nijo castle for a more accurate version of this era in Japan's history.

We had a fantastic time visiting this museum as a family of four. It was a nice break from all the temple and shrine hopping and we really enjoyed the chance to pose as a samurai family in front of the real armor. The tour guide was engaging and we learned a lot about the beginning and end of samurai history, which was really interesting. It was also great to understand the symbols we saw in the castles. The entrance fee of around 22 dollars was a bit expensive for a museum, but it was well worth it compared to other similar experiences, especially if you are traveling as a group. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it to others.

My son and I did the full museum tour plus experience. There's a section downstairs with some reading material and a quiz, then upstairs is the museum where you get to hear a lot about the origins and history of the Samurai and Ninja, including the story of the siege of Fushimi Castle. They also have a nice collection of katana and Samurai armor that you can examine closely (but not touch, of course). Finally we got to train with shuriken and blow darts, then pose for photos wearing replica samurai armor and swords. All in all a fun time and it inspired us to go to YĹŤgen-in (worth a visit).

We came here with very little expectation. The place was small and it want really much to see, however our guide, a lovely Japanese girl by the name of Tess, did an incredible job and we all (our tour group were about 10 people) loved her! She was funny and informative. She made sure were engaged the whole time! Thank You Miss Tess!

we got tickets from Klook for RM113 (about USD27) per person.

Thought I’d give this a go based on reviews and the website, we’ll the website is out of date and misleading.

A basic ticket on the website states the following, this is not however the what you get.
Guided tour
+ 2 Samurai experiences
+ 3 Ninja experiences

For ÂĄ3,300 AuD $33) you get a guided tour of the very brief museum giving you a history of the samurai (you could read it all online) The guide spoke well although not perfect English. Then you throw ninja stars and make your way to the experience centre where there is no direction and basically you put a samurai outfit on and take your own photos and you are done.

So you actually get
Museum tour
+ 1 ninja experience
+ 1 samurai experience

Very overpriced and disorganised once you leave the museum.

I wish I remembered the name of our guide at the museum, he was awesome! He spoke English very well (spent a year in BC, Canada) and was very knowledgeable about the history of samurais and ninjas. Dressing up in samurai gear and throwing ninja stars was super fun! We have great pics from this experience. We didn't book ahead which wasn't a problem in February. It's located in Nishiki Market where I purchased the best souvenirs to take home with me.

The price of ÂĄ3,300 per person is, in our opinion, completely unjustified and completely overpriced.
You can only visit the museum as part of a tour at certain times. The tour through the three small museum rooms takes about 30 minutes. This is followed by two activities - throwing a ninja star and putting on samurai armor. The whole thing takes about 70 minutes in total.
We didn't need the two activities, but we would have liked more information about the life of the samurai and ninjas, since it is advertised as a "museum".
If you are not looking for much knowledge and information there, but would like to put on a samurai outfit for photos, you are certainly in good hands.

It's a tourist trap, the big Rating is due to the rubber shuriken which is passed off as a great review, the big mistake of the court to go, the red price of the whole event is 500 yen, and in fact the price is just a museum - 3,300, the ninja experience - 6,000, the samurai - 9,000, we took the one for 6,000, for two with a tax = 13,200, for that we got - 8 throws of rubber shuriken from a distance of 2 meters, 8 times spat out of the tube with cone-shaped papers, and 1 minute of fighting with a partner on a paralon sword if you're not alone. Next, a trip to the museum, information minimum, 4 small rooms, exhibits not as such, only souvenirs. I hope you read the negative reviews before visiting it will save your pocket and time. We didn't read it, went because of the recommendation online, this experience is only used as a joke where you could spend another 13200 yen and giggle, as everything is better than that.

my samurai / ninja experience transported me back to the samurai / ninja movies I have watched .I wore a samurai warrior gear and watched a samurai sword demo. I did some blow darts and threw some spike dagggers, learned some techniques... for a half the price entrance fee .. it sealed my Kyoto memories.
