A nice day trip with kids to see different animals (especially rare ones like polar bears and lions). There’s also an indoor play area near the main entrance with a nice cafe to chill out. Not the most convenient with public transport, but it’s a...More

Went here with my husband January 2018. The enclosures are really well made and beautiful (except for where they kept the seals), but unfortunately most of the enclosures were extremely small and the animals were bored and restless. They need to expand the enclosures and...More

We went on a day trip to the zoo during the Christmas break. We wanted to see polar bears as we didn't have enough time to go to Asahiyama Zoo (much better maintained). Anyway, the Maruyama zoo was terribly operated. A lot of the exhibits...More

Once i knew i would see polar bears...that was our visit planned to the zoo. A few animals missing whilst their pens are being upgraded. Which is unfortunate but a good sign for their upkeep. Clean & tidy & nice to see different animals &...More

楽しいけど、夏のカラスはすごいアグレッシブです。キリン亡くなって、ムードはちょっと悲しかったです。 Beware of crows. Resident giraffe passed away on 8/13 due to illness and was the oldest living giraffe in Japan at 22 years old.

Asahikawa Zoo is small but it is famous for action exhibition. Maruyama zoo is much larger. There are many kinds of animals and many events are held. It is also nice to go by subway from the center of Sapporo.
