These gardens were not at their best in mid autumn but there was enough autumn colour to give a good idea that they would be even prettier at other times of year. They are relatively extensive however, and very pretty for a central city area. There are several museum/collection areas. One of these had the greatest collection of stuffed fauna... More

Had some super super fresh and delicious sushi. Small stall in Nijo market. The owner meticulously prepare the sushi and we just chow it down in less than 5sec! Not to be missed!

My rating reflects a superb tiny museum located on this garden's grounds rather than the 33-acre Botanic Garden itself. The Northern Peoples Museum focuses on the culture of the Ainu, Japan's indigenous people. Its one room includes displays of beautiful garments and a fascinating old film, showing one of the Ainu's important ceremonies. Garden admission (Y420) gives access to this... More

I rarely give less than four rings but this doesn't deserve more than two. It was uncared for, unkempt and not representative of the high quality parks in Sapporo. I was tempted to start weeding the shrubbery first then the ethnobotanical area, both were in poor state. Flowering shrubs that should have been in full bloom (and are in other... More

I visited the gardens in mid/late June. I was interested in the little Ainu museum there, so seeing that and having a park to wander around in afterwards made it a great way to spend the morning. Park maps are available in English and Japanese; I can't remember if any other languages were available. I think the grounds might be... More

It's a nice place to walk, rather quiet except for the birds. Can be a nice way to spend an hour or two. Entrance fee is JPY420 per person. Do bring mosquito repellents though. I guess it's a summer thing.

Walking through this garden is a real inspiring event. For one finds the number of unique plants, flowers and trees here as an inspiration for quiet meditation.

We had a whole day before leaving for the airport so we chose to spend the morning at this Botanical Garden at Hokkaido University. What a treat!!!! Loved seeing all the roses, lotus and water lily flowers, and the tropical foliage. Not only was it a Botanical garden, but there were rooms that pictured the Ainu clothing (made from animal...
