But a very convenient place to go and do your shopping. We did find a great cafe, if you want good coffee, great ambiance, go to Mermaid Cafe. Plenty of restaurants, some cafes, specialty shops, amine and pharmacy, like Sapporo Drug Store that offer tax free purchase above JPY 5,000. You should be able to find something.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 February 2024

- 197gabesSingapore, Singapore159 contributionsMay not be for everyoneGood place to spend a couple of hours but it may not be for everybody. As we were at the area in the late afternoon there was not much crowd. Suspect the place should get more lively in the evening. The good thing about the place is that the entire walkway is well lighted, wide and covered, so one is well protected from the elements, regardless of sun, rain or snow. Seems strange it’s call a shopping street as the choice and variety of shops seems limited, mainly find a concentration of cafes, food outlets and restaurants. The other type of shop that is high in numbers are pharmacies. If one is there to shop for typical fashion or accessories, then you may be in for some disappointment as there are not many retail shops selling fashion or shoes. The closest alternative are the pre-loved stores which do carry a decent collection of clothes and shoes. If want to shop for fashion, it’s probably better to explore individual shops scattered around the area or head for the underground mall connected to the place. To sum up, the place should be good if one needs a bite or drink to re-charge but if looking for bargain fashion and accessories, one is going to be disappointed.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 June 2024

Will get my breakfast and coffees from the marts or kombinis…and sometime beer or snacks for supper on the way back. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsCovered and Affordable Shopping StreetWe spent about two hours on the shopping street walking around and looking in shops and we walked by the area several times. The street has many affordable options for clothing and food and some surprises like shop that sold older American jerseys from the NFL. There are lots of convenience stores and pharmacies along the way and there is also a Mega Don Quijote. When we were here we also picked up some unique Japanese candies. The Tanuki Koji metro station is in the middle of it and the shopping street is inbetween the Susukino and Odori Park areas. Near the east entrance is Nijo Market and some nice antique and retro stores.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 August 2024

Although it doubles as shop for snacks and confectionaries and suchlike, Calbee Plus really scores with its line-up of Poterico and soft ice cream.
With the Poterico Salad, there’s no reinvented wheel here, but everything’s exactly as it should be: the chips have an exceptional, almost Kettle-like crunch, which gives way to a fluffy dream of an interior. They are to me, what porridge was to Baby Bear: not too thick, not too thin, snappably crisp and rustling invitingly.
Hokkaido Soft Ice Cream is seriously good ice cream. Looks-wise, it has nothing on the new generation of gourmet ice cream but it’s smooth, creamy and flavourful – it’s totally worth it.
Life’s too short to eat bad ice cream. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Stop, look, buy and go! Plenty of shops to see and explore. From food, drinks, souvenirs, clothing, pharmacies, and much more, you will almost get what you need from this shopping street. Come at night as it it brightly lit up. A long stretch of walkway to feast your eyes on.

A 7 block covered shopping street with just about any imaginal thing you would want. A nice stroll even if you don't buy anything with a few benches around to rest if you get tired out. Many places to eat and drink in all price ranges. The fresh strawberries were huge and very sweet.

It is a long street with different kinds of shop along the way. Great for food and shopping, particularly getting tax-free stuff. Many tourists are here. A must go for first-time travellers of Sapporo.

May I know what is their business hour ? What time they closed shop ? Tq
Written 18 September 2019
I'm not sure of the exact time but when we came at around 10 am, they are open already and at 8pm they are still open.
Written 19 September 2019
Not too sure about that but you can try asking at the tourist information centre in arcade 5. Try the souvenir shops as well. Just be aware that prices may be high there. It is cheaper to get a yukata than kimono.
I'd really suggest shopping at Sapporo underground shopping malls as you can end up shopping there for days! There's lots to see and buy.
I think you can definitely find a yukata at new chitose airport in the souvenir shops

Where is the best restaurant to eat snow crab in Tanukikoji Shopping Street?
Written 11 November 2017
aloha,
good question. Our crab focus while in Sapporo was mostly on the hairy crab & LIVE Red King crab, so I don't have much info to help you specifically with snow crab. WE experienced two crab opportunities. Within reasonable walking distance on the east end of the Tanukikoji shopping street is the Nijo Market. During the winter season, you would have a 2 block walk in the open to get to the market. This market would offer you an informal , perhaps outdoor opportunity to eat different kinds of crab including your snow crab. Some of the vendors mentioned the restaurant across the street from the market would cook the crab that you purchased from them. We did not do that. If my memory is accurate, the snow crab we saw were in clusters (no body) & displayed on ice, previously frozen. Through the concierge at our mid-priced hotel, we booked a free bus shuttle to the Jogai Market/Sapporo Central Market. We were dropped off at the main drop off/pick location for the shuttle bus where there is a seafood market & restaurant that we shopped at and ate a lunch of hairy carb, King crab & live scallops. If you decide to eat there, go UPSTAIRS rather than eat at their downstairs location. We experienced better service, a smaller crowd & a more relaxing atmosphere to enjoy our leisurely lunch. Some in our group took home the scallop shells to cook the scallops the same way as the restaurant back home. Sorry, I don''t remember the name of the establishment but I do remember in the front display was the largest live King Crab I have ever seen. It would have been just right for our group but my concern was how sweet the meat would be having lived in it's own water for a long time. In summary. besides the 2 locations we experienced, there are lots of restaurants within a 3 city block radius of the Tanukikochi Street. For most of the better rated restaurants, a reservation is recommended. Our hotel concierge was a big help. I personally favor the night shift managers & staff. They tend to be less busy therefore more patient and willing to offer advise & commentary. They're very familiar with the night life too. enjoy!

How long do people usually spend on average at the Tanukikoji Shopping street? Planning the itinerary so would be good to have an idea! (2-3 hours?)
Written 19 October 2017
for starters, its a long street stretching over several blocks. the east end is close to Nijo market, so you may consider starting your day there, grab a sushi/sashimi bite, then start the street. secondly, its a really a personal thing, so if you find the street interesting, you may end up spending a longer time there. thirdly, there's enough variety of shops to kep you distracted. lastly, besides the f+b outlets enroute as you walk the street, the western end of it has a cluster of izakayas. and that may end up being your next meal place. as a guide : we started around 5ish, and left after dinner (at the izakayas locale) around 9ish....if thats any timeline help?

What time do the stores open?
Written 10 February 2017
Less than 20 minutes walk from Sapporo JR Station. Go out the direction of Daimaru Department Store, proceed forward through the underground passageway direct to the staircases leading up to Odori Park where Tanukikoji Shopping Street is on the next street near TV Tower.

That's a store called "Mandarake" on the second or third floor of the building about 2 minutes walk from Tokyo Metro Nanboku Line Susukino Station Exit 4. I got some of the figures that I can't find in Akihabara there. The address is 〒060-0063
NORBESA building 2F, Minamisanjo Nishi 5-1-1, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido .
There's also another anime figure store in that building too.
