After visiting Nijo market, we were hesitant to see the Jyogai or curb market because it may turn out to be more or less the same. However, our desire to eat fresh seafood took us there. And we had no regrets visiting it.
1. Bigger than Nijo
This market has more stalls and is better organised. Crabs, scallops, shellfish are kept in water tanks which are at knee level. It is interesting experience for our children to see huge king crabs up close.
2. Less touristy than Nijo
We find less tourists here. The market feels more "local" as a result. However, the prices of the products sold are the same.
3. Getting there
From Sapporo station, take subway Nanboku line to Odori station and transfer to Tozai line. Drop off at Nijuyonken station. The market is about 500 metres away.
We had a fantastic lunch at Kaisen Shokudo Kita no Gourmet Tei (see my review) and spent more time shopping here than at Nijo market. If you have to choose between Jyogai and Nijo, I recommend visiting Jyogai.

This market opens in the morning until arround 14:00. Best time is to come arround 10:00-13:00
The market is full of Sea Food, both fresh and processed. Some stalls provide restaurant for thr customers to dine in, some only sell the seafood.
We dined in, the the freshness of sashimi is unbeatable!
Note:
From Sapporo station, go via JR rail to Soen station. When you arrive, take west exit and follow the road along the Hokkaido Bank. The market is accross seven eleven store.
Ask the train keeper when confused

Unlike Tsukiji Fish Market, you are not allowed to enter its main market inside(JONAI) but
can hung around in Jyogai only.
I have checked the prices and quality of the fish like salmon, crabs or the local food there, but I found it not worth going all the way
far from the center of city.
You can get the same stuff in Sapporo or better stuff at more reasonable price in Tsukiji or
shops in Tokyo.

This area is not touristy as it is far away from the city center.
There are two rows of shops lined on both sides of the road.
They are selling seafood and they serve fresh seafood at the back of the shops. We had Kaisen don here and they were very delicious.
Comparing to Nijo market, it is more open and less crowded here. The other difference are there are many dining options and fresh local fruits.

It is a long walk from Soen staion, if you go in the winter when roads are slippery. What should be a 15 min walk turned out to be nearly half an hour. As there are no directions along the way, it is easy to lose one's way. We had to enlist a japanese man for help on our first visit & he kindly guided us half the way there, and he only turned away after he made sure we did not get lost. What a kind soul!
At the Curb Market, no matter where you turned, you are bound to find a shop selling foodie souvenirs such as crab meat miso soup, dried salmon flakes, biscuits, chocolates & the like. And no matter where you go, the price is the same. -.- I had thought it would be cheaper the further I walked away from Soen station, but this was not the case. It was crowded when I visited, with stall owners trying to sell their biggest profit makers- hairy crabs. I did encounter one persistent stall owner who asked us to buy her products the moment we stepped into her stall. AND she followed us all the way till we stepped out. I am so glad I did not buy anything from her because she simply irritated me with her stubborn persistance. However, you tourists maybe relieved to know that she was the only persistent hawker around. I can't remember the name of the shop but her shop was the first one immediately after the road curve, if you exited from Soen station. So be careful not to step in!
There are far more shops than eateries there, so there is not much of a choice if you want to eat. And the number one item everyone seems to be ordering is seafood bowl, with all its variations. I must say the seafood was darn fresh, unlike anything I had eaten in a long time. The eatery I went to was called "Yan Shuu", with the "yan" written in katakana & the "shuu' in kanji. It is located on the second floor & it has a decent menu & clean toilets. And it is a non-smoking eatery. Thank goodness for that.
The second eatery I went to is called "Kita Gurume" or Northen Gourmet. It has a more limited menu & parts of its second floor is smoking. This eatery seems to be catered more for tourist groups as there were big groups of Chinese tourists both upstairs & downstairs.
At both outlets, we did not have to wait long for our food although the eateries were crowded. That speaks volumes of Japanese efficiency I guess.

Been told to visit Jogai market instead of Nijo for fresh seafood, and I was not disappointed.
Fresh seafood there was quite a selection. They offered help to foreigners like us about packing and shipping t hotel the early morning of the next day for a flight back to Bangkok. We paid without getting any thing out of the shop, but got all stuffs readily packed at the hotel counter. Dry ice was enough to keep all crabs, fish, scallops fresh til we arrived home > 24 hours later.
Restaurant on the second floor was great with acceptable price. I could feel the freshness of the sashimi. My kid loved it here, and would come back the next time.

A interesting experience but... unless you love seafood...and also willing to spend money on fresh seafood (especially crabs), it's a large central market for japanese to do their marketing...and its also very commerialised and touristy.
Perhaps a more picture taking place only...and not really a place to buy anything.

We ordered 10 items off the menu for 8 of us and it costs less than ¥26,000! We had 2 Chirashi bowls, abalone, grilled Hokke, scallops, grilled Hokkaido crab legs, otoro sashimi, crab miso soup and uni sashimi for breakfast. The seafood were really fresh. Highly recommended

The place seems to be a bit far from Sapporo downtown. FYI, it takes few subway stations and another 10 minutes walk from the station. The place is worth visit. My friend and I visited early in the morning, when there are not many crowds. We also visitied the restaurants within the market and tasted servral seafood dishes which we really enjoyed. The price is reasonable given that the seafoods are really fresh.
